Saint Leo's hosts two annual events
|
|
The annual Thanksgiving Dinner for the Needy & Homeless was held November 17 in Saint Leo's Church Hall.
Serving about 350 meals, the dinner is sponsored by Saint Vincent Pallotti Council, of Saint Leo's Church. Gift bags of toiletries and candy were donated by Promotion Center for Little Italy and assembled by volunteers last week. The Council thanks all volunteers for taking time out of your busy days to serve the hot meals.
And, Saint Leo's annual Ravioli Dinner was held November 13 as hundreds of guests feasted on homemade ravioli and meatballs which parish volunteers had made previously during three Saturday sessions. The next dinner will be held in March; both are part of Saint Leo's major fundraisers.

Bravo and grazie mille to Baltimore's Italian community member, Bill Martin, for generously kicking off our YEAR-END FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN with a $500 donation!
Bill is vice president of AIAC (Associated Italian American Charities of MD) and committee member of Columbus Celebrations Inc. With his AIAC charitable giving allocation, he chose Promotion Center for Little Italy as charity of choice because, in his words:
"I wanted to thank you for all of your efforts; how you have grown the Promotion Center and how you have been involved with all things Little Italy and the various Italian groups! I spend some time in Little Italy every month. I love the neighborhood, the restaurants, the history, the stories and the people. I want it to always be there. I wanted to do something that will further the image and recognition of Little Italy. So my feelings are in line with the mission statement of the Promotion Center -- to be a voice for Little Italy as an ethnic neighborhood, to provide communications, to promote events and to promote the neighborhood's heritage and history."

Community association leaders (right) from Baltimore neighborhoods, including Little Italy, recently gathered in Highlandtown to share a meal and discuss what a unified First District could look like. Twenty-two of 24 neighborhood associations, including Little Italy's LIPOA and LICO, were represented, such as Canton, Patterson Park, and High

~ Claudio Carlini in Italy
TRANSLATION:
Thanks for everything. Thank you for the interest that you have for your original village. Unfortunately, Central Italy is in a very difficult time in this moment. In central Apennines, there are
occurring many earthquakes and some are very very strong. So many people no longer have their own home. Anything that you can do will be welcome. We will never stop thanking you. I and a few friends stayed in Baltimore in August 2012. Your vitality and your sense of belonging to Italy, remains in our heart. A big hug to the whole community.
