Construction Lien Act Review

The long awaited Construction Lien Act was released on September 26, 2016 by the Ministry of the Attorney General's office.

In February 2015, the Ministry of the Attorney General and Ministry of Economic Development and Infrastructure selected Construction Lawyers, Bruce Reynolds, Senior Partner, Borden Ladner Gervais LLP and Co-Counsel Sharon Vogel to lead the Construction Lien Act Review.

The Review aims to modernize the province's thirty three year old construction legislation by putting forward recommendations that will impact the livelihood of those employed in the province's construction industry - two of the most significant recommendations are related to adjudication and prompt payment.
Over the 18 month period, Mr. Reynolds and Ms. Vogel worked to gather information from different industry stakeholders before presenting their findings and recommendations in the 300 page report titled, Striking the Balance: Expert Review of Ontario's Construction Lien Act.

The review is slated to go into legislation spring 2017. Click here to view a summary of the recommendations.

BestBidz on Demand

TCA's Electronic Plans Room better known as BestBidz offers General Contractors a product known as On Demand - this product allows our General Contractors (GCs) to manage and control project documents and the bidding process by  inviting sub-contractors and suppliers they know to bid on projects.

If you don't have many contacts for a certain trade, you now have the ability to use a directory of contacts, within BestBidz, On Demand, to help narrow down a trade or location.

BestBidz On Demand eliminates the need for external FTP sites making it easier to distribute tender documents, increases project exposure, is less expensive compared to similar services, and frees up more time to prepare your tender for an owner.

If you're interested in using a new feature that will simplify your bidding process  and allow you to receive bids in one convenient online location, make sure to contact Teddy Tse, Electronic Plans Room Manager at 416-847-9157 / ttse@tcaconnect.com.
