Fundraising Event: Garage Sale
Thank you to everyone from all our church families for the great donations towards the very successful garage and plant sale October 7.
Over $4,000 was raised.
Special thanks to June Koster, Elizabeth Winkler and Merv Lutes who worked so hard for weeks to ensure its success.
A very special thank you to all the helpers for the set up and sale.
Ministry Faire
Many thanks to Ken Hembroff and Victoria Jones for organizing the recent Ministry Faire and to all who created and tended the many and diverse displays.    And many thanks to all who participated and learned more about our exciting new community of faith.
Well done, Peninsula United Church!
Breakfast in Bethlehem??
Traditionally, First Church has participated in the White Rock Christmas on the Peninsula community event, with a pancake breakfast and a Nativity play.  Should we do this once more before the building comes down?  If there is sufficient interest, we will need volunteers to organize and implement it.  We need to decide whether to go ahead by the end of October.  The event is on Saturday, November 25th.  If you'd like to help make this happen, let me know and we can get together do some brainstorming and planning. Cathy Bridges:  604-560-3998 or [email protected].
Toiletries Needed
Nitelights will be meeting on Tuesday, October 24, 7pm in the Narthex at the Crescent site to assemble the toiletries bags for Atira House.

From Our Finance Team
Financial Snapshot
Thank you for the many ways each of you contributes to sharing God's love in our community of faith.   Your financial donations help create a community where love is shared generously and joyfully.

The majority of annual revenue is from household givings (PAR, envelope, loose offerings). PAR brings stability as the monthly amount is fairly constant while envelope and loose offerings vary monthly.

In addition, we continue to rely on planned gift monies to cover operating expenses.  In 2017, $110,000 has been taken from Planned gifts.

In preparing the July to December 2017 budget which was included in the amalgamation proposal, household givings were estimated at $34,916 per month or $104,748 for July to September.  Actual household givings for the July to September were closer to $67,000.  This is a shortfall of $37,748.
Offering Envelopes and PAR
(Pre-Authorized Remittance)

We will be ordering numbered Offering Envelopes for 2018 very soon.  Our three lists of Envelope users and PAR givers will be consolidated, and most households' Envelope/PAR number will be reassigned.  Boxed envelopes should be ready for distribution later in December.  In order that we don't over-order envelopes, now would be an excellent time to let us know that you wish to switch to the PAR method of giving.

**If you would like to switch to the convenience of PAR - automatic monthly contribution by direct debit - it's as easy as filling in a request form and providing a void cheque.**  This is a convenient and faithful way to ensure your financial support to the church is received consistently throughout the year.  Forms are available at the back of the church, or from members of the Finance Team - Val Austring, Sharon Birney, and Jim Sheppard.  Forms may be returned to Val Austring, the church office, or placed in the "little white church" offering box marked to the attention of the Finance Team.

Additionally, if you are already on PAR and would like to increase your givings, please contact Val Austring to request this change. Thank you.
Important Financial Information Update
Until we receive approval for our amalgamation from Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) it will be necessary for each pastoral charge (Crescent, First, Sunnyside) to maintain its own accounting records.
The information below provides clarification on how donations will be handled in the interim.
  • If you are on PAR, you do not need to do anything.
  • Offering information will be kept separate, so cheques need to be made payable to the founding congregation (i.e. Sunnyside, First or Crescent).
  • Cheques made payable to Peninsula United cannot be accepted.
  • If you use offering envelopes, continue to use your envelopes for the balance of the year. New envelope numbers will be assigned for 2018.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact Sharon Birney, Jim Sheppard or Val Austring.
