Make an Impact in the next 24 Hours!
Dear ,

A few short days ago millions of people across the U.S. celebrated Thanksgiving, a time to come together with loved ones and give thanks for all that we have. This year, we at UConn Hillel have much to be thankful for, passionate students, active alumni, and engaged parents, but we cannot do it alone!

We rely on the generosity of people such as yourself to enable us to continue our mission of enriching the lives of Jewish students so that they may enrich the world. This #GivingTuesday we ask that you consider supporting our mission by making a donation. All donations will be matched by a generous donor, doubling your contribution! Your contribution, no matter the size, positively impacts our community, without which we would not be who we are today.

Follow us on social media to see the impact we make on students on a daily basis!

A Snapshot Into Our Semester
Matzah Ball Late Night

Over 100 students gathered at Hillel for the first ever Matzah Ball Late Night! The event raised over $200 for tzedakah!
UConn Hillel, UHart Hillel and
Trinity Hillel Brunch

Students from the three Hillel's gathered on November 6th at Trinity to meet one another, bounce
ideas off of each other and participate in leadership training. Students enjoyed the opportunity to meet one another and look forward to attending a similar retreat during the spring semester.
"The Rescuers": Film Screening and Talkback

On November 9th, UConn Hillel screened the documentary The Rescuers along with the UNESCO Chair Office and the Center for Judaic Studies and Contemporary Jewish Life. We welcomed the film's producer- Joyce Mandell and director- Michael King for an informative evening about the heroic actions of diplomats during the Holocaust and other modern-day genocides. Students and community members had the opportunity to view the film which was followed by a Q&A
session with Mandell and King.
Dialects, Jews, and Hollywood

Students gathered to listen to Dr. David Alan Stern, UConn Professor of Dramatic Arts and Hollywood dialect/accent coach. He led a fun session about the TV and movie-making process and the joys and woes of trying to teach actors to speak with the right accents for their roles. Students had a chance to explore the realities and stereotypes of the American-Jewish accent and learn a bit about Hollywood's Jewish founders.

Sophomores Nathan Schachter and Miriam Katz joined Executive Director Scott Selig during the Thanksgiving vacation to stand outside of the Crown Market in West Hartford. Nathan and Miriam raised over $250 for Hillel's HuskyTHON team, with the proceeds going to Connecticut Children's Medical Center. Fifteen students have already signed up to take part in HuskyTHON's 18-hour dance marathon, UConn's preeminent student-led fundraiser.
Alumni Spotlight
Jeremy and Leslie Broverman
Jeremy Broverman '96 and his wife Leslie (Bernstein) '98 reflect fondly at their time at UConn Hillel. In fact, it is where the met! Jeremy recalls, "Leslie was helping to cook a Shabbat dinner and I was schmoozing and welcoming the students when she asked me out. And now we just celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary!" They were both very active in Hillel with Jeremy serving as the Student President his senior year and Leslie being involved in Israel advocacy.

They live in Pittsburgh, PA and have two young boys. Jeremy works as a project manager for the Bank of New York Mellon and Leslie has mostly been a stay at home mom, but is both a Registered Dietitian as well as a Registered Nurse. They are both still active in the Jewish community in Pittsburgh.
