Welcome Back!

Welcome back to all ISO students and parents! We are excited to announce several events that mark the start of the 2017-2018 Season!

This year we have a new ensemble, the Concert Band, for beginning/intermediate band students that meets in Brooklyn on Sundays.  Our Spring concerts will be held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for ISO Symphony, ISO Symphonic Band, and Concert Orchestra, and at the Brooklyn Museum for Carnegie Hill, Turtle Bay, Trinity Florentine, and Morningside Orchestras, as well as Concert Band. We're looking forward to a fantastic year of music making!

100 Years of La Cumparsita
Featuring the ISO Symphony

Thursday, October 5, 2017 at 6:00 p.m.
Trinity Church, Broadway at Wall Street, New York  City
FREE; Open to the public

On Thursday, October 5, 2017, a unique Tango concert will celebrate the Centennial of the world's most famous Tango, "La Cumparsita," written by Uruguayan composer Gerardo Matos Rodríguez. The concert will be held at Trinity Church and feature bandoneon master, composer and Latin Grammy Winner Raúl Jaurena, the ISO Symphony, and guest conductor Martín García of the National Symphony Orchestra of Uruguay. Organized by the Consulate General of Uruguay in New York, this highlights the worldwide celebration of the Uruguayan Tango.

The Uruguayan government has officially declared 2017 as the year to celebrate the "Centennial of La Cumparsita." For this cultural exchange initiative, Uruguayan musicians will work with ISO's students to teach them the intricate techniques required to perform some of the most beautiful Tango pieces from the 20th century. Professional Tango dancers will be featured center stage. Trinity Church Wall Street will live-stream this celebration to the world through their website; the concert will also be available on-demand. ISO's performance in New York City is one of many taking place around the world to celebrate the Uruguayan Tango.

2017-2018 Tuition Payment & Financial Aid

Invoices were sent out in mid-August that reflect the summer's discounted tuition rate. This discounted rate only applies to tuition amounts paid in full, and will expire on September 15. Tuition can be paid online here, or by submitting the paper invoice via mail or fax (see below for more information).

Starting after September 5, families who have not paid in full will have the option to set up automatic monthly payment plans that run through May. If you are interested in setting up a payment plan before the next round of invoices are sent, please contact Audra Fuhr Purita at [email protected] or (646) 757-9053.

Families who find that their tuition and fees present a hardship should fill out a financial aid form. The deadline for priority consideration is September 1. After that, applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and will be considered on a first come first serve basis. You can download the financial aid form here.

Other Opportunities

Twelve years ago, From The Top partnered with the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation to create the Young Artist Award, a scholarship of up to $10,000 that includes a performance on NPR's From the Top with Host Christopher O'Riley.
Each year we select approximately 20 exceptional musicians between the ages of 8 and 18 for the Young Artist Award. Students can use their scholarship funds to further their musical development by purchasing new instruments, paying for private lessons, attending summer music programs, covering travel expenses for college auditions, and fulfilling other musical needs.
You can find more information about eligibility guidelines here on From the Top's website. We look forward to hearing from you.
