Dear vtTA Members & Supporters,
We were pleased to meet with and help visitors to last month's Tech Jam find tech job openings and contacts in Vermont. We shared 175 job openings from our members and met job seekers from Vermont and the region, but also from outside the state, including Ohio, Boston, and the metro DC area. (You can find updated job openings year-round in our Career Center.) We also talked with several entrepreneurs who are considering opening or expanding businesses in Vermont, including Burlington, Rutland and White River Junction area. It's good to see that our efforts to raise awareness of Vermont as a place for tech careers and entrepreneurs is gaining traction.
We were also excited to present the fifth annual Tech Jam Awards, which this year featured four awards, 78 nominations and 895 ballots cast by the public. Congratulations to ThinkMD, winner of both the Innovation Award and Startup Award; VCET, winner of the Ambassador Award; and Sara Simon at VPR, winner of the Newcomer Award. public policy priorities
.

What do these items have in common: a set-piece for Phish's 2015 Magnaball festival, a device to hold staples, a high-end motorcycle frame, and beautiful stools with reclaimed-lumber seats? They were all designed - and some were manufactured - by Matt Flego and Erik Cooper of M//E Design. The name of their game is industrial design and prototyping - with cutting-edge technologies and sustainability in mind.

Vermont HITEC
is collaborating with the University of Vermont's College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS) to support its certificate programs and to engage employers who are interested in supporting internships and work-related experiences for students in those programs.
Tech and other businesses are sought who are interested in hosting one or more interns from UVM during the spring semester and/or over the summer. The spring semester opportunity would run mid-January through April, and the summer period would run from June through mid-August.
For businesses considering bringing an intern on part-time, the spring semester is an ideal time to do so, since many students will also be attending classes and employers could potentially continue the internship into the summer. Providing internship opportunities to area students is one way to help address the need to attract and retain talent locally.
