EVANS WEEKLY
Issue: #9
October 20, 2017

Happy Friday,

The first quarter has been very successful and our students are doing an amazing job.  Thank you for your support of our teachers and all the hard work they do for our students each and every day.

The second quarter will begin with a bang...RED RIBBON WEEK is October 23-27.  Please encourage your child to participate in the fun (see details below for themes of each day).

On October 25th at 6:30 in our library, Officer Mo Messner will have a special parent presentation on Internet Safety.  Because of the adult nature of the topic, child care will be provided should you have to bring your children, but no children will be allowed in the presentation.  We hope you will join us for this very worthwhile event!

Another special event next week is our AVID Showcase.  On October 24th, we will have 40 visitors come tour our school and see the fabulous AVID strategies we use everyday at Evans.  Just another example of why I am so proud to be a Panther!!

A group of students from Evans will participate in our annual Special Olympics Bowling Competition next week on October 25th.  Let's wish these students the best of luck in this fun event.

Our 2nd Annual "Scare Drugs Away" dress up day is on October 31st.  Please help us keep this a school appropriate event by following the guidelines below:
*No masks that cover the face.
*No blood, gore, and guts can be part of a costume and nothing depicting death or hate.
*Students must be in dress code.
*No weapons, fake or real.
*Nothing that prevents students from doing their "job" as a student (need to be able to still sit in desks and use writing utensils).
*No Clowns

Please come join us tomorrow for the MISD Holiday Bazaar at MHS from 9-4.  We would also love to see you from 8:30-11:30 at MNHS for the Bedrooms, Backpacks, and Beyond parent seminar on drug prevention awareness.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Darla

      MEDIA RESOURCE CENTER
Eight years ago, Addie Webster was the victim of the most notorious kidnapping of the decade. Addie vanished-and her high-profile parents were forced to move on. Mark Webster is now president of the United States, fighting to keep the Oval Office after a tumultuous first term. Then, the unthinkable happens: the president's daughter resurfaces. Addie is brought back into her family's fold...but who is this sixteen-year-old girl with a quiet, burning intelligence now living in the White House? There are those in the administration who find her timely return suspicious. When a national security advisor approaches Darrow Fergusson, Addie's childhood best friend and the son of the president's chief of staff, he doesn't know what to think. How could the girl he's missed for all these years be a threat to the United States? Still, at the risk of having his own secrets exposed, Darrow agrees to spy on Addie. He soon realizes that his old friend is much more than the traumatized victim of a political fringe group. Addie has come with a mission...but will she choose to complete it?

NURSES NOTATIONS

Parent Red Ribbon Week Challenge!!

Clean out your medication cabinets in your home- get rid of the old or unused medication in your home. We sometimes do not realize the medications that are still in our own medicine cabinets that can be harmful to our children. Many times people may have old pain medicines from procedures and do not even remember. These medications could be easily used and abused by someone seeking them out that might be visiting your home. Please go through all of your medications. Lock up your meds and get rid of the old, expired and unused medications that you do not need by bringing them to the community drug take back event next Saturday October 28th at The McKinney Safety Building. This is a great Red Ribbon week project! Together we can make our community a safer place for our children!

      PANTHER ATHLETICS

The 8th grade Lady Panthers had the opportunity to take on the Faubion Lions at McKinney High School last night.  The girls did not let the change in atmosphere and excitement of player introductions and an announcer throw them off there game.  The Grey team started the evening with a nail biter - ultimately falling 26-24, 22-25, 21-25.  The Blue team had an up and down match.  Dropping the first set 7-25 but bouncing back to take the second set 25-15.  The just couldn't keep the momentum and lost the third set 10-25.  The White team topped off the evening with a thrilling 3 set victory - winning 25-19, 20-25, 25-22.  The hope to continue the good play in the final matches and district tournaments.

IMPORTANT PARENT INFORMATION

Dear Parents,

Although some of he following information is not new, we would like to remind you of a few policies we have in place here at Evans Middle School.  We can't thank you enough for your cooperation!

*For the safety and security of all MISD students and staff, everyone is required to show government issued ID (driver's license, identification card, passport etc.) upon entering the campus or accessing student information.

*In the event your student forgets an item at home, you are welcome to leave it on the cabinet in the front office. Please make sure it is clearly and visibly marked with your student's name. We cannot be responsible for anything left on the cabinet and all food items will be thrown out at 3:45pm. In an effort to keep our classrooms as free from disruption as possible, we will not make phone calls or deliveries to students for items left for pick up.

*We are happy to have your student come to the front office to be checked out once you are in the building, but we do not call students in advance. This will keep our students in the classroom as much as possible. If your student is in a fine arts class, lunch or a PE/Athletics class, please allow for additional time when picking them up. Please be sure that the person picking up your student is on your contact list. We will need to see your driver's license every time you enter campus. Thank you in advance for your help with this.

*We will not be able to call a classroom for dismissal after 3:15pm in order to minimize disruption at the end of the school day. If you must pick your student up at the end of the day, please arrive in plenty of time to meet this deadline. We appreciate your understanding.

*While you are welcome to bring lunch up to school for your child, bringing food to anyone other than your student is prohibited. This is a federally mandated directive.
