What's Happening in Boise School District

October 23:
Red Ribbon Week (October 23-27) kicks-off on Monday, October 23rd with the annual Red Ribbon Rally attended by local students on the steps of the Idaho Statehouse from 12 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Red Ribbon Week is a nationally recognized anti-drug effort that delivers one of the most important messages students will ever receive - that they have the choice to live a drug free life. This year, Miss Idaho America, Kylee Solberg; Miss Teen Rodeo Idaho, Ashley Kerby; and Miss Boise Teen USA, Gabriella Simpson, will be the featured speakers at the annual Red Ribbon Rally. In addition, Boise School District's Shadow Hills Elementary Choir, directed by Gina Spangler, will perform. During Red Ribbon Week, a variety of school events have been planned, such as hearing drug free messages through school wide assemblies, making pledges to stay drug free and participating in drug free activities.
October 24:
Certified New Applicant Orientation, 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Boise District Services Center, 8169 W. Victory Rd., Boise. Boise is a high performing school district with nationally ranked schools offering a quality lifestyle in beautiful southwest Idaho. BSD is hosting a Certified New Applicant Orientation, geared towards first-time, certified applicants for BSD. At the orientation, applicants will:
- Receive important information regarding the certified application
- Hear from current supervisors about what to expect for the screening interview
- Witness a "mock" screening
- And more!

Boise National College Fair
, 9:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Expo Idaho. More than 120 college, university, and trade school representatives from across the United States will be available to discuss degree/certifications, campus life, and all other aspects of their schools. There will also be experts available to discuss financial aid, NCAA/NAIA eligibility, the IDEAL college savings program, CIS (Idaho Career Information System), and more! High school counselors will be on hand, as well, to answer any specific questions you may have regarding the application process. During the 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. sessions, Boise School District will be bringing all juniors and West Ada School District will be bringing all seniors. Other districts and schools from across Southern Idaho will be attending within those time slots as well, so parents and other students are encouraged to attend the evening session for more individualized attention.
The event is free to the public and parking is free!

Boise Pre-K Project Shows Student Success: The City of Boise and the Boise School District on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 released data detailing the success of the joint Boise Pre-K Project, a collaboration to provide high-quality early childhood education to children of the Vista neighborhood of Boise. The data, unveiled at a celebration of the program's second anniversary at Whitney Elementary School (see adjacent video of celebration), clearly shows that the program has a significant impact on children's readiness to enter kindergarten. Specifically, in the fall of 2016, more than 86 percent of children enrolled in the program scored at or above benchmark scores on the Idaho Reading Indicator, compared to just 53 percent of their peers not enrolled in the program.
Boise High Athletic Varsity Teams Receive State Recognition: The Idaho High School Activities Association is pleased to announce the 2017 fall sports Academic State Champions. This award is presented to the varsity team in each classification that achieves the highest cumulative grade point average. The IHSAA and its official sponsor, Dairy West, congratulate the following Boise High School student-athletes for their academic achievement and commitment to excellence through activities.

Borah High and Treasure Valley Math and Science Center student, Alyse Palsulich (pictured), wrote a book entitled
Behind the Cover
that got published and it is now available for sale on
Amazon
. Alyse is in 11th grade and has been working on this novel for two years and it is actually part of a series.

Boise School District has improved its College and Career Website by providing useful information for students and families as they prepare their student for success in college and career. Find upcoming event information, links to useful resources, as well as a link to the BSD College & Career Twitter feed.

K-6 Report Card Re-Design:
To help prepare our students to be college and career ready, Boise School District has updated the K-6 report card. The new K-6 report card will now closely align to Idaho Core Standards in English Language Arts (ELA), Math, Social Studies, Science, Health & P.E. and Music. The purpose of the report card is to communicate the student's progression towards learning goals, highlight strengths, and guide improvement. The District has published a Parent Guide To K-6 Report Card Re-Design brochure to explain the changes made to the new K-6 report card. In addition, the District has created a K-6 Report Card Re-Design website to provide further information for parents and guardians.
