Wellness Classes -
Visit our website for class cancellations due to weather conditions.
The Community Cancer Center offers a variety of fitness classes for our patients and their caregivers. These are fun and open to all levels of participants. There are no fees for any of the classes.

CHAIR YOGA BASICS

Chair yoga basics is a gentle form of yoga that is practiced sitting on a chair, or standing using a chair for support. This class teaches the basic yoga movements or asanas, and breath work, while helping to develop the mind body connection. It is a great practice for everyone, but is particularly beneficial for those who may have difficulty getting up and down off the floor. Participants will learn many kinds of yoga postures, breathing techniques, meditation, and ways of relaxation, with the aid of a chair. All yoga deepens flexibility and strengthens personal body awareness. It helps with symptoms of health issues including hypertension, anxiety, chronic fatigue, arthritis, vertigo, clinical depression, and chronic pain just to name a few. Chair yoga basics will be offered on Fridays from 12:00p-1:00p.

BARRE ABOVE

Barre Above is a low impact workout that is approachable to all fitness levels and ages.  It is a mix of yoga, Pilates, and ballet.  This class will create long lean muscles and improve posture, balance, and flexibility. It has also been proven to help with medical conditions such as hypertension, anxiety, chronic fatigue, arthritis, vertigo, clinical depression, and chronic pain just to name a few.
Barre Above will be offered on Mondays from 5 - 6 p.m.

ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese therapy in which needles are used to stimulate pressure points throughout the body. Although acupuncture does not target tumors or prevent cancerous cells from spreading, it can play a beneficial role in improving a patient's quality of life. Studies show acupuncture may help relieve fatigue, control hot flashes, decrease nausea, reduce vomiting and lessen pain. For more information or to schedule a session, please call 319-558-4876.

Look good feel better is a free program that teaches beauty techniques to women in active cancer treatment to help them combat the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment.
Women will learn how to cope with skin changes, hair loss, and the use of wigs and scarves during the session. Cancer can rob a woman of her energy, appetite and strength.  But it doesn't have to take away her self-confidence.

For more information about the look good feel better program, visit the website: www.lookgoodfeelbetter.org or call the American Cancer Society toll free at 1-800-227-2345.

Strands of Strength
Established in 2011 by a cancer survivor, Strands of Strength (SOS) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide wigs free of charge to low-income women suffering hair loss due to cancer treatment.

The wigs offered by Strands of Strength disguise hair loss, decrease feelings of vulnerability and provide greater self-esteem; hopefully resulting in the personal strength needed to successfully battle the disease.
For more information about this program contact your a Care Coordinator (319) 558-4876.

Aiming for a Cure
The mission of the Aiming for a Cure Foundation is to raise funds to benefit pediatric oncology patients and families dealing with difficult times and decisions in our local communities. Our goal is to improve the quality of care and quality of lives of these children and families through the funding of research, non-insured expenses and patient care.
