Disability vs. The Workplace

In this TEDx video, Lesa Bradshaw talks about how the tendency to set a low benchmark for people with disabilities creates an environment of discrimination toward employees. She says it's time for companies to understand that it's not about finding people with disabilities that suit their structure; it's about changing their structure to suit people with disabilities.
Disability Discrimination

A recent study shows that nearly a third of college-educated employees working full time in white-collar jobs have a disability. Meanwhile, 40% of employees with disabilities say they have experienced discrimination or negative bias. This leads to a hesitancy to disclose a disability at work when sometimes a simple accommodation could make a big difference in quality and efficiency for both the employee and the employer .

Join us for the last of our Fall Lunch & Learn Movie Series in either our Kalamazoo or St. Joseph offices. We'll be watching "Including Samuel" on  Friday, November 17.

Before his son, Samuel, was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, photojournalist Dan Habib rarely thought about the inclusion of people with disabilities. Now he thinks about inclusion every day. Including Samuel is a highly personal, passionately photographed film that captures the cultural and systemic barriers to inclusion.  What role can you play in including people in the community?
