Task Force Leads AgeOptions Advocacy Mission
On Behalf of Older Adults

A central element of AgeOptions' mission is Advocacy - advocacy to improve systems and services to people can thrive as they age. The Older Americans Act requires all area agencies on aging, within their Planning and Service Areas, to advocate on behalf of older persons to local, state and federal policy makers. AgeOptions has championed that responsibility from its inception in 1974.

Caring Together, Living Better Receives

A Matter of Balance Helps
Older Adults Prevent Falls

One in three older Americans - about 12 million - fall every year, according to the National Council on Aging. Falls are the leading cause of both fatal and nonfatal injuries for people 65 and older. Fear of falling also takes a toll, as some older adults try to prevent falls by limiting their physical and social activities. AgeOptions' A Matter of Balance program is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase the activity levels of older adults who have concerns about falls.
Support Groups and Resources
Help Relatives Raising Minor Children

Helen didn't need another support group, she told her fellow grandmother. Her life was complicated enough with raising her grandchildren. She was angry and stressed and had difficulty functioning. But she agreed to go to the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren meeting at North Shore Senior Center and, 10 years later, reports it has helped her deal with the many challenges she was and still is facing.
