Walk through the American Revolution

This week, our 5th grade students participated in the "Walk through the American Revolution," a presentation designed to allow students to actively participate in a lively retelling of our nation's beginnings. Through the use of games, music, and storytelling, history comes alive!

This dynamic program has become one of our most popular classroom experiences. Students explore the famous events, historical figures, and relevant vocabulary of this pivotal point in America's history. Through dramatic activities, students "become" famous men and women of the American Revolution. Flags, maps, re-enactments, music, and games help students explore and understand the importance of American liberty and patriotism.

Last week, our 4th grade students took us on an amazing walk through California. The program focuses on major events that shaped our great state of California. Drama, dance, games, and music support students' listening skills, vocabulary development, history, and geography standards. A large topographical map of California is built for students to experience California's geography in hands-on fashion.

As a parent/guardian, you need to log in to My BackPack and validate that you have completed the following:

If you do not have your My BackPack login, please email [email protected].

Your student's safety is one of our major concerns. Do not hesitate to ask for assistance. You can order socks today on the order forms your child received in homeroom, or you can visit our We Help Two page to donate. Please make checks payable to We Help Two.

All month long, your student can wear these socks with his or her uniform.

Marine Biology Students Gain Exciting Learning Experience on Field Trip
Fairmont Prep's marine biology students recently took a field trip to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach and the California State University, Long Beach Marine Biology Department.

At the aquarium, students puzzled out how to build their own filtration systems for aquariums. At CSU Long Beach, three different labs gave tours and introductions to their research: the famous Shark Lab, a toxic aquacology lab that studies the harmful effects of plastics on different types of cells, and a wetlands ecology lab that closely studies the beaches and lands closest to us.

Lastly, and most enjoyably, students wandered through a hands-on invertebrate lab, where 20-odd different species ---     starfish, sea urchins, crabs, sea slugs, starfish, sea anemones, and more ---        were on display for touching, handling, and looking through microscopes! A special thanks goes out to Professor Bruno Pernet, who coordinated the visit and set up the invertebrate lab for the students.
