An interviewer started to ask Yogi Berra about his two hits from the previous night when Berra corrected him and said he had three hits.

The interviewer apologized. "I checked the paper and the box score said you had two hits. The third must have been a typographical error."

"Hell, no," Berra replied. "It was a clean single

to left."

A spring rain

in Florida

--Laurel Poeton

I met my dad in March to be with him as he fulfilled a wish on his bucket list: visit spring training for the entire month of March. He decided to go to Florida, and I met him and my mom for the last week.

Spring training is an amazing experience. You get to be so much closer to the players than in regular season. During the second game we attended, Pirates vs. Yankees, it started to rain. My dad's brother had come out from Seattle to join us, and luckily we brought our rain gear. I was really excited to be at spring training so did not mind the rain. (In the picture above you will see that I am the only happy one!) It took a while to call the game, which meant we got to bide our time in the warm Florida spring rain.

Again, I did not mind. Family time and baseball time are two of my favorite things.

I got to be closer to Ichiro Suzuki than I have ever been before - and I don't even like the Yankees. He's just such a good player, though. In the end we got to see three and a half games as a family, and we have decided to do it again next year. We hope to get to Arizona to see the Oakland A's with friends.

Go baseball!

Laurel Poeton has been living in the Bay Area for the past 14 years. She was raised on the Boston Red Sox but now has a passion for the Oakland A's. Having grown up in the freezing cold of Vermont, she finds the sunshine and vitality of the Bay Area inspiring and refreshing. Currently, she works for the Alameda County Transportation Commission where she does public outreach, informing the voters of Alameda County how their sales tax dollars are at work.
