What's With All the Bears?

We have been seeing many reports on social media lately regarding bear sightings and even nuisance issues with bears in residential neighborhoods. So what's with all these bears and what can you do about them?

First, it is important to note that the black bear is the only bear species found in North Carolina. As a general rule, they are very non-aggressive and prefer to avoid contact with humans.

Does your child know what to do in the event of a fire at home, first aid emergency or other dangerous situation? Minor emergencies can become major disasters if children don't know what to do. Currituck County 4-H is offering a workshop on general safety for youth ages 5-8 on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

"Echinacea" is derived from the Greek word echinos, which means sea urchin or hedgehog, referring to the pointy cone found in the center of flowers. Coneflower is one of the toughest perennials, tolerating dry, droughty soil, and hot summer sun. It is a nectar source for bees and butterflies while in bloom, and the seeds provide a winter food source for birds.

NC Cooperative Extension, Currituck County is holding a cheese making 101 class on November 6thfrom 1:00 to 3:00pm at the Currituck Extension Office. The class fee of  $5.00 will hold your place in the class.
