Since Halloween is right around the corner, we're serving up some sweet facts about your favorite candy.
1. M&Ms are the most-loved candy... in space.
Seriously. M&Ms have become part of the standard menu for astronauts aboard the International Space Station. Why are they the perfect snack? They're bite-sized and aren't likely to crumble - plus, astronauts love using them to explain science concepts to students in educational videos. Check it out.
2. Mary Jane candies stick to their roots. The design of the Mary Jane candies - a yellow wrapper with a red stripe and drawing of a young girl, has stayed the same for over 100 years and the recipe of peanut butter and molasses has stayed the same, too. The chews are named after creator, Charles H. Miller's beloved aunt and were sold in Miller's Boston home that turned into a candy shop - the same home that Paul Revere once lived in. Fast forward more than 200 years, Miller's candy company was sold to NECCO, where they produce Mary Janes in Revere, Massachusetts.
3. Naming the Snickers bar was not a laughing matter. The founder of Mars, Inc., Frank Mars, invented the Snickers bar in 1930. He named it after his favorite race horse, Snickers, that had passed away. Snickers was raised on his family's farm, the Milky Way, in Tennessee.
4. Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are the brainchild of a former Hershey employee. Harry Burnett Reese started milking cows at one of Hershey Chocolate Company's dairy farms, but when his facility shut down, he was out of a job. He opened his own company, but didn't have any luck and ended up back at Hershey, this time in the shipping department. He decided to try candy making again and
incorporated his new venture, H.B. Reese Candy Company. Five years later, in 1928, the Peanut Butter Cup was introduced and the rest is history. Reese's company ended up where it essentially started - Harry passed away in 1956 and Hershey acquired
H.B. Reese Candy Company in 1963. Reese's Peanut Butter Cups went on to become Hershey's bestselling offering.
5. Skittles...good for you and good for cows?
A pack of Skittles contains a decent percentage of your daily recommended amount of Vitamin C. After hundreds of thousands of Skittles were discovered on a motorway in Wisconsin after falling out of a truck, the investigation concluded that Mars sells unused ingredients to clients who then mix them with other materials to make animal feed. Cattle nutritionists say Skittles are broken down mixed with other ingredients to achieve the correct nutritional profile for cattle feed.

We are excited to announce that we have another great addition to the Bestpass team! Meet Kevin, our newest Finance Assistant.
Kevin is originally from Syracuse, New York
- which is why he "bleeds orange." When he's not busy rooting for 'Cuse, he's cheering for the Giants, Red Sox and Rangers. Kevin is also an athlete himself - he's a two-sport threat, playing basketball and softball for various local teams.
If Kevin had to pick his last meal: "It would be a toss up between pierogies and fried chicken. No vegetables."
What he loves about Bestpass: "I love the overall culture. Everyone is so nice and friendly, including the dogs that make an appearance at the office. It's great to be able to sneak in a quick dart game on lunch."

Cashless Tolling Goes Live for MTA Bridges
|
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Throgs Neck and Bronx-Whitestone bridges have officially adopted cashless tolling. This marks an end to toll plazas that still accepted cash, as well as the traffic that comes with them, at the agency's crossings.
Don't worry, you're covered on all of MTA's bridges, with Bestpass!
