80th Annual Homecoming, "Dożynki" and Harvest Festival celebration to be held at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Chappell Hill, Texas on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017. (PLEASE NOTE NEW DATE!)
There will be a "Dozynki Mass" and Homecoming Festival. Mass will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a harvest procession and Polish hymns. Following mass, lunch will be served at 10:30 a.m. with games, bingo, live music and auction to follow.

The Polish tradition of "Dożynki" dates back several centuries giving thanks to God for the year's harvest. "Dożynki" means harvest and this tradition celebrates the end of the crop season thanking God for the bountiful yields. In Poland, "Dożynki" or Harvest Festival is celebrated after the wheat harvest at the end of August and this is why I feel that this festival was started 80 years ago on Labor Day Sunday.

We have chosen to incorporate this Polish tradition of "Dożynki" to celebrate our Polish heritage with the Homecoming/Harvest Festival to recognize the Polish immigrants that came to Chappell Hill and established St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Our ancestors were seeking economic and religious freedom and their first project was to build a Catholic church to praise God for their new freedom and prosperity.

The Homecoming/Harvest "Dożynki" mass and celebration will begin with the holy rosary at 8:30 a.m. and mass at 9:00 a.m. with the blessing of the "Dożynki Bread" at 10:00 a.m. After mass, lunch will be served at 10:30 a.m. in the parish hall.

In addition, we would like everyone to come in Polish costume and participate in the mass procession. If you do not have a Polish folk costume, a white blouse or shirt with a red necklace or red ribbon with black pants or red skirt is very Polish. You do not have to dress Polish to attend, but our participation continues to grow each year and we welcome everyone. Please come and witness this beautiful celebration even if you chose not to wear a Polish costume.

Dziękuję bardzo & God Bless You!
