A few weeks ago, I was at a preview of our production of August: Osage County. The show ended to an enthusiastic round of applause, after which a subscriber turned to me and said, " Now that's theatre - thank you." As we continue through our 12th season, I can think of no better accolade.

We have now produced over 70 plays, including Jesus Hopped the A Train, Speech & Debate, In the Next Room, Clybourne Park, Ideation and Blackberry Winter, just to name a few. We have become a major player in the regional theatre scene and appeared on the cover of American Theatre magazine. We have produced three National New Play Network Rolling World Premieres including this season's smash hit How To Use A Knife.

We've grown from a cramped 99-seat theatre in Old Sacramento on a riverboat to a beautiful 125 seat theatre in the heart of vibrant Midtown Sacramento, along with new offices at the CLARA with permanent rehearsal and classroom space.

And all of this has been possible because of you - our community of donors, patrons, and volunteers - the people who have shared our vision of bold, intimate, live theatre in Sacramento. I'm writing to ask you to continue our partnership.

As you know, ticket revenue only covers a portion of our operating costs, and we depend on the generosity and support of donors like you to realize our vision. Every contribution goes to good use and makes a tremendous difference - for example:
  • $100 would pay for the printing and framing of the portrait of Amir in  Disgraced
  • $500 would pay for the royalties on Eric Clapton's music used in  August: Osage County
  • $940 would pay for a scenic painter's services and paint supplies for  The Totalitarians
  • $1,500 would pay for one LED theatrical lighting instrument
Our 12th season will bring you the Obie Award nominated Guards at the Taj by Rajiv Joseph, Harold Pinter's masterpiece Betrayal, Aaron Posner's hilarious revision of Anton Chekov's The Seagull - Stupid F##king Bird, and the biting comedy Bad Jews by Joshua Harmon, a 2014 Lucille Lortel Award Nominee for Outstanding Play.

Please consider making an end of year, tax-deductible donation to Capital Stage. Every gift - no matter the size - makes a difference. Thank you, for helping us create those " Now that's theatre" moments.

Sincerely,
Michael Stevenson
