PWP PROPOSES TWO IMPORTANT WATER RATE UPDATES

PWP wants to update you on two important water rate-related changes we are proposing: new water rate structure (how we charge for water) and adjustments to our water rate (the prices we charge). The Pasadena City Council has scheduled a public hearing on September 25, 2017 regarding these proposed changes, which are necessary to reduce reliance on meter connection sizes to allocate water and to recover increased operating costs.

PWP held a community meeting at Eaton Canyon Nature Center on August 23 and will be hosting two more to provide details and to seek feedback.

August 29, 6pm - Central Library - Studio on the 4th ( 285 E. Walnut St.)
September 6, 6pm - Brookside Golf Course - Arroyo Room ( 1133 Rosemont Ave.)

DO YOUR PART TO BEAT THE HEAT

As temperatures continue to remain hot, PWP wants you to stay safe and do your part to conserve energy by signing up for Flex Alerts via state grid operator California ISO (CAISO). Flex Alerts are heat-related notifications from the State of California asking residents to conserve energy to reduce strain on the state's power grid.

Last month, CAISO issued a two-day Flex Alert  due to high temperatures. If CAISO were to issue another Flex Alert, PWP will notify customers on our website, Facebook and Twitter. We encourage the co mmunity to stay connected with us by updating their contact info and following us on social media.

NEW ART TO BE DISPLAYED AT THE GLENARM POWER PLANT

Earlier this year, the Arts a nd Cult ural Affairs Div i sion of  the City of Pasadena's Planning and Community Development Department began searching for artists to create a large-scale art project at PWP's Glenarm Power Plant.

The permanent installation will use light, color and/or motion to provide a profound visual interpretation of the City's role in art, science and technology. All of the finalists have experience with large-scale public art installations both locally and internationally, and were encouraged to incorporate themes of energy, water and sustainability.

The winning artist will be awarded a contract in November of this year. The project is expected to be completed by October 2018. To read more about this public art opportunity, click here

STAY COOL WITH A SHADE TREE

PWP can help you lower your electricity bill during high temperatures with a shade tree rebate. Plant a shade tree along the south or west walls of your home and receive a rebate of up to $50 per tree if you purchase from a local Pasadena business. Rebates are available for up to 10 trees every five years.

Trees that cast shade can help reduce the amount of heat absorbed by your home's roof and walls, and help lower the temperature inside your home. Shade trees might also help reduce the amount of electricity needed to cool your home during high temperature days.

PWP offers a useful  Cool Trees Program Guidebook and Tree Selection List along with a number of other Home Cooling rebates.

HERITAGE SQUARE SOLAR SYSTEM

Heritage Square, an affordable senior housing apartment complex in Pasadena, recently completed the installation of a large solar system. The 73 kW-AC system is expected to generate approximately 107,900 kWh a year, which is enough power to support approximately 20 average Pasadena residential customers annually.

The Heritage Square complex offers 69 units of affordable rental housing for low income seniors in Pasadena.  The City of Pasadena celebrated the grand opening of the complex in March.  Click here to view more photos.
