It's that time of year...except this Fall season seems to be a little bit more off kilter than usual.  The temperature ranging from hot to warm to cold and back to warm again.  Have you felt it wreaking havoc in your body?  Many of my students are getting sick or have flu like symptoms early or even more frequently.

What is one to do?

Start by paying attention, then prepare a tool kit of natural resources to combat illness.  This includes a really good night sleep by the way...

What tools do you need?

Stock your kitchen with these:

Raw honey
antioxidant powerhouse, releases melatonin to promote sleep

Vitamin C
helps reduce the length of a cold

Zinc
can reduce the severity and duration of a cold

Elderberry syrup*
immune booster, effective in fighting colds and flu; aids sinus infection

Garlic
is a badass that can help strengthen your immune system

Oil of Oregano
natural antibiotic; powerful antiviral; fight inflammation and viruses

*After Thanksgiving I'll be selling my fresh homemade batches of Elderberry syrup!

Make sure to check out the goodies below.

Have you checked out my new website?!

MINDFULNESS
A Practice of Empathy:  What is Empathy?
noun: empathy
the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.
Sanskit: Bhaavsaandrata

With everyone's head stuck in their smart phone have we lost the ability to be empathetic?

With so many terrible events happening in the world ...occurring so frequently, now is where we need to practice Empathy more than ever before.

The practice of empathy can be very simplistic, here are some ideas:
-smile at a stranger, who seems sad
-open the door for a mom who's juggling a stroller and little ones
-offer your seat on the Path to someone who looks like they need it!
-give your friend or family member a genuine big squeezing hug
-give your time to listen to a stressed out co-worker

All these ideas are FREE and really don't take that much time.  Showing someone earnest concern, especially someone you don't know can really lift spirits and make the world a better place.

I think we need Empathy now more than anything.

YOGA IS MORE THAN ASANA
Eight Limbs of Yoga
Did you know that a yoga practice, the whole point of yoga is to prepare the body to SIT in meditation.  Moving the body in yoga helps open up the joints and tightness in the body as well as relieving stress.

There are eight limbs of yoga - asana is not the first limb!

YAMA is the first limb  ~ ethical moral codes to live by

* I recommend saving these newsletters or copy the information as each time I'll be going over the next limb until we review all eight!  This information will help you have a deeper understanding and APPRECIATION towards yoga on and off the mat : )

BREATHING 101

Prana (breath) is energy, a life force that we can't live without.

Do the breath technique with me so it can become your habit.

you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it.
Go out and get busy."
