The Burlingame Parks & Recreation Department is beginning a Master Plan for Ray Park and seeks public input! The Master Plan will be a comprehensive vision for Ray Park that will provide a framework for the park's use and development.

  

The Ray Park Master Plan advisory committee will be meeting over several months to evaluate and discuss playground designs, parking options, playground amenities, the snack shack, restroom, and parks storage.

Eventually the plan will be presented to the Parks & Recreation Commission for approval and phasing options will be discussed. The first priority will be to renovate the playground area to meet current ADA accessibility standards.

  

To guide the advisory committee's decision making, please take this  short Ray Park Master Plan survey to provide your input regarding potential playground equipment and amenities. The Burlingame Police Department wants to draw public attention to National Teen Driver Safety Week this week, October 15-21.

 

Teen Driver Safety Week will help parents focus attention on setting rules for their teen driver before allowing them to get behind the wheel. Parents and guardians must set firm driving rules to impact their teen's driving behavior. They can be the difference between life and death.

 

As part of its commitment to educating the motoring public, there are many programs for teen drivers and their families:

 

Start Smart  is a driver safety education class conducted by law enforcement personnel that targets new and future licensed drivers. 

 

Every 15 Minutes  challenges young drivers to think about drinking, driving, personal safety, the responsibility of making mature decisions, and the impact their decisions.

 

Impact Teen Drivers is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving lives through evidence-based educational programs that support good decision-making strategies.

 

California Friday Night Live Partnership educates teens about traffic safety and impaired driving awareness.

 

The Power of Youth and The Power of Parents, are MADD's multi-sensory high school assembly education programs highlighting the dangers of teen impaired drivers.

 

Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) educates and brings awareness to California communities of the human toll caused by alcohol related crashes.

 

The Burlingame Police Department is aware of the importance of role models in a youth's development. Parents and others setting the example and education of new drivers and their families is regarded as a critical function to help keep everyone safe while driving.

The Burlingame Lions Club has been serving our local community through its work on charitable causes for almost 90 years.

The Parks Division is in the process of planting 139 City trees throughout Burlingame in planter strip areas, tree lawns and parks.  The species of trees being planted will include Trident Maples, Gingko Bilobas, Crepe Myrtles, Maytens, Red Oaks, Australian Willows, Magnolia St. Mary's and Samuel Sommers, Scarlet Oaks, Red Maples, Raywood Ashes, Chinese Flame trees, Chinese Pistaches, Sycamores, Pittosporums, Purple Leaf Plums, Red Spire Pears and Idaho Locust.  This is the last of three plantings that will happen this year.

Come to the Burlingame Public Library this Saturday for S.T.E.A.M. Fest, a day to awaken your curiosity and spark your creativity as you make community connections with great local Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math organizations through presentations, workshops, and hands on activities. The City invites you to attend a free 15 minute presentation about Anson Burlingame, our city's namesake. The city is contemplating a site-specific public artwork to be commissioned to honor Anson Burlingame. After, our public art consultants Fung Collaboratives will facilitate an inclusive public discussion to learn about the community's interest, goals and possible locations for this commemorative artwork in order to develop the appropriate strategy to move the project forward. The workshop is appropriate for residents of all ages, interests and backgrounds.

The Burlingame Parks and Recreation Department invites you to our Indoor Holiday Movie series! Bring a blanket and enjoy time with family and friends for a classic holiday movie shown on our inflatable indoor movie screen. The event is free & open to the public, but there will be concessions available for purchase.

The first movie of the series is How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) on November 17. Concessions will open at 5:30 p.m. and the movie will begin at 6 p.m. Lawn chairs and blankets are encouraged. Join Moms Against Poverty in partnership with Central County Fire and the Burlingame Youth Advisory Committee for their annual Holiday Helping Hand Toy Drive. This will be a day of gift wrapping donated toys for families in need these holidays. Come with your families and bring your donations, big or small! Families will be able to wrap toys together, write cards, and celebrate with the community. We hope to see you there!

The Burlingame Parks & Recreation Departments is excited to offer this ski and snowboard trip! On December 9, we will ski and ride at Soda Springs. This location is great for beginners, but still fun for all skill levels! Cost includes transportation, continental breakfast, lift ticket, after-ski snacks, and adult supervision. The trip is open to 8th graders and high school students ages 12-18 (12 - 14 year olds must register with a friend). While at the ski resort, participants will be expected to check-in with staff multiple times throughout our day. Ski/Board rental available for additional cost (see pricing).
