revealing His Life, Love and Light to the World.

Our Vision:

Celtic Worship in Advent - EVERY SATURDAY!
Saturdays, 5 p.m.
This Season of Advent we will all offer a Eucharist in the Celtic worship tradition on Saturday evenings. Celtic worship is deeply rooted in scripture and liturgical tradition and affirmed by music that draws both individual and community into the palm of God's hand. The energy and pace will be noticeably different - with more silence and breathing encouraged. Our goal for the four Saturday evenings this Advent is to offer a service of worship that counterbalances the energy of the world around us and draws out the Spirit within each of us.
Christmas Flowers & Music Donations
You can honor your loved ones on our Christmas Remembrance/Thanksgiving list by making an offering to support altar flowers or our music ministry. Envelopes are in the church or make your offering online. All names are due to the church office by Wednesday, December 14. Contact Nina Zettinger, 858-487-2159, with questions.

ADVENT SERIES CONTINUES THIS SUNDAY!
Keeping Alert to the Birth of Jesus:
The Growth of Spiritual Perception
Sundays, 9 a.m., Parish Hall
In Advent we await with eager longing the birth of our Lord Jesus, the incarnate Word of God. While this yearning sharpens our physical senses to the delights of the season - crisp air and blue skies, sparkling seas, candles, balsam wreaths, family, friends, and good food - our spiritual senses also can be enhanced. Christians in all times have believed that people can grow in their ability to perceive God's presence, not only through their natural lives of desire, but also through spiritual senses that are, at once, similar to and different from the physical senses of taste, touch, vision, hearing, and smell. Prayer, spiritual practices, and worship, as well as explicit attention to our desiring self, all foster a special alertness to the birth of Jesus, God with us. Inevitably, people express their joy and gratitude at God's gift of his Son through committed service to others. Come and learn what our ancestors taught about growth in spiritual perception, the transformation of desire, and what theologians are saying about these possibilities today.

CHILDREN & YOUTH FAITH FORMATION
Support our Children's Ministry
There are so many ways to help - BIG and small. On Sunday mornings, we are looking for parishioners interested in teaching, being aides in the classroom, and greeting new families. Help is always welcome at special events like Trunk or Treat, Christmas Pageant, and this summer's Vacation Bible School. Please contact John Prust or Maureen Hovannesian if you would like to explore ways in which your talents & desires for change meet our needs in children's (or youth) ministry at St. Bart's!
Are you Called to be a Youth Confirmation Mentor?
About a dozen high school youth are involved in the yearlong process of preparing to receive the sacrament of Confirmation. Our high schoolers gather every other Sunday evening at 6 p.m. in the Youth Room. An important part of the process is an adult mentor who accompanies each youth throughout the journey. Mentors don't need to be experts or "have all the answers". All they need is a desire to keep learning and growing in faith and a willingness to accompany someone else on their journey of faith! This is a deeply rewarding opportunity. Please call John, 858-432-7111, if you're interested!

NEWS AND NOTICES
End of Year Tax Tips
If you're interested in donating to the Endowment or complete your 2016 pledge, please read. If you're over 70 ½ and must take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your IRA, it usually must occur before year's end. Remember that you can decrease your Adjusted Gross Income by having part of your RMD sent directly to St. Bart's as a Qualified Charitable Distribution. You must contact your IRA custodian to get the form to do this.

If you want to donate appreciated stock, unless you have a certificate in your possession, you must contact your broker to arrange that so it occurs before year's end (for a 2016 deduction). It's always a good idea to consult your own tax advisor about such issues. If you have questions about this or any Planned Giving issue, please contact Pat Blair, 858-414-2067.
Are You ready for the Vestry?
Each year several Vestry members retire after serving a three-year term. These members then serve with the Wardens and Rector as the nominating committee to identify candidates for the Vestry. We are accepting nominations for four vestry positions. Please begin prayerfully considering if you might be called to serve in spiritual leadership as a member of St. Bart's Vestry. Please direct questions about serving on Vestry to Dan Crane. All nominations should be submitted by January 1.
Pastoral Emergencies
