St. James Congregational Luncheon
Sunday, October 29, 2017
12 noon

In celebration of the historic 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, St. James will be hosting a congregational luncheon following the 11:00 service on October 29th, 2017.  Our menu will consist of German foods and beverages that Martin and Katie Luther would have enjoyed 500 years ago!

This will be a "no-ticket" event, but a FREE WILL offering will be collected and forwarded to Lutheran World Relief to support the hurricane relief efforts.

Please note that the football game will be aired for all you football fans!

COME AND SHARE FELLOWSHIP AND ENJOY AN AMAZING MEAL!
Reformation Luncheon Menu:  Help requested!
Following two powerful worship services on October 29th, the congregation will gather at noon for a luncheon in the Community Room. The event committee has planned an authentic German meal, and we are asking for your help.

The menu will consist of Bratwurst, Frankfurters (primarily for the children), Pork Loin with Vegetables and Gravy, Golden Glow Jello Salad,  Sauerkraut, Red Cabbage with Apples, Kaesspaetzele (a German version of macaroni and cheese ),  ****Oktoberfest Roast Chicken, ****Applesauce, ****Warm German Potato Salad,  ****Green Bean Casserole,****Oven Roasted Potatoes, ****Carrots, ****Breads, and ****Dessert.

While much of this menu will be prepared by committee members, the items above marked with an asterisk will (hopefully) be contributed by members of the congregation.  Recipes will be provided.  A sign-up sheet is available in the Community Room.

If you are interested in helping with set-up on Saturday, October 28th or in serving at the luncheon, please contact Loretta Lavoie at [email protected] or Carol Fournier at [email protected]

Stewardship

Over the next few weeks, we will be running our annual Fall Stewardship emphasis.  Our finance team will begin to gather information from teams and committees in the congregation and we will ask each household to prayerfully consider making a pledge for financial stewardship for 2018.

You will be receiving a few stewardship mailings, including a pledge card during this time.  Please take the time to look them over and prayerfully consider making a committment to give to St. James' mission in the coming year.  We are asking that you return pledge cards by November 15.

As  we begin this process, we are also asking members to update their Demographic information.  There will be a copy of the most current directory available in the Community Room so that you may check the contact information that we have on file. If you have any changes or would like to complete a new demographic form you may use the o ne found  here Thank you!

October Mission of the Month-The New England Synod

Our October Mission of the Month will benefit the New England Synod-our regional body of the ELCA.  A special thanks to Kim Bergstrand for coming to speak with our Congregation.  A recent report of the Synod council mentioned that mission support giving across New England is down by over $8,000 this year.  While St. James is current in our support, the Synod could use some additional funds. Find out more about the exciting mission of the Synod on Sunday October 1 and consider making a contribution to support our shared ministries!
A quick note from Jill Bowen...

Third Quarter Giving Statements are available on the round table in the Community Room.  Please remember to pick your statement up the next time you are in church!

All Saints Sunday

Sunday November 5 is All Saints Sunday.  In our Lutheran tradition, we celebrate every individual as a saint of God.  On All Saints Sunday, we set aside time within our worship services to celebrate those saints who have passed away in the last year.

This year, we will celebrate members of Saint James who have died in the last year. We would also like to celebrate the lives of those in your immediate family who have passed away this year.  If you have a name that you would like to include on November 5 feel free to reply to this message with the names and a photo of your loved ones and I will make sure to include them in our worship.  Please submit these by Sunday October 29.

On November 5 there will be prayers and family members will be invited to come forward to light a candle in their saint's memory.

I realize that grieving is a process and find that this act of remembrance can help in that journey through grief.  If you have questions, please feel free to be in touch with anything at all.

God is Good...All the Time!

Peace,

Pastor Andrew
