Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every  Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7pm. Admission  is $5 on Tuesday and $6 on Saturday. Line Dancing classes are also offered on Monday nights beginning at 6pm. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Local blue grass and old time musicians jam each Monday, 2 blocks north of the Courthouse at the Crouse House in Crouse Park, beginning at 6pm. Come and play or just listen. No charge, but a donation is appreciated. 336-372-5473

Barn Quilt Trails 

Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

Driving Loops
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Be sure to visit when planning a trip this Spring or Summer. Open Thursday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm. There's never an admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.

Veterans' Morning Coffee & Breakfast
 at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal full breakfast including, biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, and coffee every Wednesday from 8:30-11am. All veterans are invited to attend.  Click to learn more .
 
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10am-2pm, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 US Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Suicide Intervention Training

Training for ordinary citizens to learn how to confront individuals they believe may be considering suicide is being offered  Oct. 18 at the Alleghany Public Library at 12 noon.

QPR - Question, Persuade, Refer - training is an hour-long program that requires no prior experience or training. There is no charge for this training, but seating is limited. Bring a bag lunch. Drinks and desserts will be provided.

23rd Annual Hillbilly Comedy & Variety Show


The 23rd Annual Hillbilly Comedy & Variety Show will be held on
Saturday, October 21st at 7 p.m. in the
Alleghany Community Auditorium.  
 
Tickets will be on sale at the door for $10 adults, $3 for children 6-12 years and children under 6 years old will be admitted FREE.  Advanced tickets for adults may be purchased for $8.00. Please call 336-372-7284 to purchase ticket(s) Monday-Thursday 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., or for more information.
All proceeds go to assist low income families with emergency heating and electric, the Head Start Lending Library Program and scholarships for high school seniors.

Mountains-to-Sea Trail

Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail is seeking proposals from communities along the trail route that are interested in hosting our three-day member meeting - known as the Gathering of Friends - in February or March of 2019 and 2020.

Deadline to submit proposals: Friday, November 3, 2017 by 5:00 pm.

Hillbilly Hoedown  with 
Rise and Shine Band  every Tuesday night. Admission $5 on Tuesday, $6 on Saturday, age 12 and under free.
