Seinfeld Offers Testament to the Power of Podiatry: It "Changed My Life"

 "When I think back to the decades of suffering I went through in the 80s and 90s, this has completely changed my life." That strong testament to the effectiveness of podiatry was made by comedian Jerry Seinfeld (above left), describing the outstanding, ongoing care he has received from

Class of 2019 Achieves High Pass Rate
Congratulations to the Class of 2019, which achieved a first-time pass rate on APMLE Part I of 96%. The national average was 88%. In his announcement, Dean Michael J. Trepal, DPM ('81) said, "Let's also acknowledge the faculty who taught them and the admission folks who recruited them. We couldn't be prouder of them all."

Michael Rothstein, MSN. Over the years he has observed an increase in wounds, due to the aging of baby boomers and the epidemics of diabetes and obesity. But for Michael Rothstein caring for wounds is his passion!
Mr. Rothstein earned a BS and MS in Audiology and Speech Pathology from Herbert Lehman
College, and then a BSN and MSN from Wagner College, graduating in 1997.

The Other Side of the Polish Exchange Program
In the July issue of
Footprints
, Sang Hyub Kim (2018) wrote thoughtfully about his experiences in Poland during a two-week exchange program arranged by Trustee Halina M. Semla-Pulaski, DPM ('89), LHD. For the other side of the exchange, two students from the Health and Sciences Department of Uniwersytet Jagielloński w Krakowie (Jagiellonian University in Kraków) studied at NYCPM for two weeks. Spanish Podologists Complete Studies, Celebrate 25 Years of Collaboration
On August 3, 10 podologists from Spain culminated a week of study in NYCPM's Bako Anatomy Lab under the direction of
Professor Ricardo Becerro de Bengoa Vallejo, DPM ('95), PhD and
Professor Marta Los Iglesias, PhD of Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, with
Michael J. Trepal, DPM ('81), NYCPM's Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean. The two course directors, with
Professor Juan Carlos Carrera Merino, BS Podiatry, accompanied the students to the College.
At the luncheon to celebrate the completion of this year's course for Spanish podologists, President and CEO Louis L. Levine (right) and Dean Michael J. Trepal, DPM (left) presented Professor Becerro de Bengoa Vallejo, DPM, PhD (in orange shirt) and Professor Los Iglesias, PhD, with a beautiful glass plate that commemorates the 25 years of the collaboration.

Dean's List for 2016-17 Announced!
At the end of July, 69 freshman, sophomores and juniors were notified by the Dean's office that they had made the Dean's List for 2016-2017. This means that these students maintained a 3.5 grade average for the entire academic year. Congratulations to all!

PRESENT Offers 2017 Residency Education Summit
The 2017 PRESENT Podiatric Residency Education Summit East Conference continued its tradition of providing high quality podiatric educational experiences with prominent speakers who both lecture and present hands-on workshops. Present e-Learning Systems, an ongoing supporter of NYCPM's Alumni Relations Association, held the August 11-13 conference at the Teaneck Marriott at Glenpointe in Teaneck, NJ.

Class of 2019 Attends 2017 Residency Fair
More than 50 programs attracted over 80 third-year students on August 11 at the 2017 Residency Fair. While the vast majority of programs present were located in the tristate area, they were joined by programs from across the U.S.

Jennifer D'Amico, DPM ('07), has left the West Coast and joined Litchfield Hills Orthopedic Associates in Connecticut. After graduating from NYCPM, Dr. D'Amico completed  her podiatric surgical residency at Scripps Mercy Hospital and Kaiser Foundation Hospital in San Diego. Following her residency, Dr. D'Amico completed a fellowship in limb lengthening and reconstruction at The Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore. She also did an AO trauma fellowship in Switzerland and leads international medical mission trips yearly. Dr. D'Amico serves on NYCPM's Alumni
Relations Advisory Board.

('74) has been appointed as associate professor of anatomy and physiology for Western Arkansas Technical School, University Arkansas Fort Smith. This
 course is a prerequisite course leading to an LPN degree and licensure in Arkansas. His prior appointments included teaching an emergency medical responder course at Western Arkansas Technical Center, University of Arkansas - Fort Smith (2016-17).

In Memoriam
Noel Handel, DPM ('76)
, passed away in Jerusalem, Israel. Handel emigrated to Israel in 1989. There, he esta-
blished large and successful diabetic foot clinics in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem in which he often saw up to 100 patients a day. Source: PM News
