The West Virginia Humanities Council has launched a new apprenticeship program.

The program awards up to a $3,000 stipend to West Virginia master traditional artists or tradition bearers working with qualified apprentices on a year-long in-depth apprenticeship in their cultural expression or traditional art form.

These apprenticeships are offered to masters of traditional music, dance, craft, foodways, storytelling, and more-in any cultural community in the Mountain State and aim to facilitate the transmission of techniques and artistry of the forms as well as their histories and traditions. Sara Evans, Pottery

As an engineer, Sara balances the mechanical force from herhands to make simple, pleasing designs from the clay.  As a musician, she looks for the beauty and art in the flowing forms of my pottery.
Her nature-inspired pottery is formed both by throwing stoneware clay on the wheel and by hand building. It is then fired with unique complimentary glazes.  Her pieces are meant to be used and enjoyed every day as well as for special entertaining.
