ITS TIME FOR BUILDERS AND DEVELOPERS TO MAKE THEIR VOICES HEARD
AB 1701 is the latest in a long list of legislative threats to the homebuilding industry
Dear BIA Builder and Developer Members:

When 2017 was declared the "year of housing," many in the homebuilding industry felt that the California State Legislature had finally come to its senses and was ready to confront the long-neglected issues - chief among them being lack of supply and rising prices - plaguing the state's housing market.

That was then and this is now. Gone is the optimism (however cautious it may have been), replaced by seriously flawed legislation in the form of Assemblymember Tony Thurmonds' AB 1701.

AB 1701 is a severely flawed proposal that would drive up project costs and unfairly punish innocent homebuilding companies. According to our partners at CBIA, AB 1701:
  • Fails to hold unscrupulous contractors accountable for not paying their own employees and shifts liability to innocent parties that have already made payments meant for the workers of those contractors; and
  • Hurts people who are already struggling with affordability or living paycheck to paycheck by making housing more expensive.
We need you to join in the fight against this terrible bill right now and there are some very simple, yet effective, ways you can do that listed below:
  • Call your legislator.
  • Sign a petition to oppose AB 1701.
  • Add a comment, as a constituent, on your legislator's wall asking them to oppose AB 1701.
  • Send a tweet to your legislator.
  • Post this link to the CARE Housing website on your Facebook wall and tag three friends in the post.
Our industry has come too far since the dark days of the Recession and we cannot sit on the sidelines while out of touch legislators continue to push reckless legislation, like AB 1701. Please join us in this fight.

Sincerely,
Andy Davidson
