CRA Call for Nominations
Seeking Board of Directors Candidates for 2017 Elections

The CRA Board Development Committee is seeking recommendations for CRA Board nominees for the 2017-2020 board positions.  In order to represent the diverse views and regional character of the membership, the committee has identified the following areas of special interest for the upcoming board election cycle: SC government representatives, school/university representatives, and/or members with past experience as a treasurer or in financial management.  These are not pre-requisites and members without these qualifications are equally encouraged to apply.

CRA board members provide leadership to fulfill the CRA's mission and goals.   If you are currently a CRA member in good standing, you have a good work ethic, industry experience, you have the time to conduct board business and the ability to travel North and South Carolina for meetings, you may be the perfect candidate. Click here for the tentative meeting schedule

The deadline for submission is January 13, 2017.  Please do not nominate a candidate without their knowledge and consent to become a candidate.

Member Spotlight - Greensboro, NC
Doing Good Deeds with Plastic Bags

Volunteers load dozens of plastic bags-turned-bedrolls for Greensboro's homeless residents.
Greensboro, NC capped off the first phase of its Operation Bed Roll program this month in a unique effort to reduce plastic bag contamination at their partner MRF, ReCommunity Greensboro, raise awareness about proper bag recycling, promote creative reuse, and fill a community need.  Operation Bed Roll brings community groups together in collaboration with the City's Field Operations, Library, and Police Departments to transform plastic grocery bags into "plarn," or plastic bag yarn to crochet sleeping mats for people experiencing homelessness.  The mats provide insulation, cushion, and a physical barrier for people who must sleep on the ground.  Just in time for Thanksgiving, Operation Bed Roll and Greensboro Police delivered the first set of 71 plarn bedrolls, reusing an estimated 35,500 plastic bags.  This winter, the City's Interactive Resource Center which provides services to low income and homeless residents, as well as City police officers, will keep on-hand a supply of bed rolls to give to the homeless as needed.

CRA Rolls Out New Online Member System
Getting the most from your membership now easier than ever!

Over the last several months, CRA has been working to transition into a new, more user-friendly system for all of our event and membership registration needs.  The system is easier to navigate for users, and provides a shiny new searchable member directory.   What may not be as obvious, but nevertheless important, are the increased efficiency and data management benefits that the system provides on the back end that greatly improve our ability to serve our members.  Stay tuned for more new member benefits to come through the system, operated by MemberClicks.

If you are a current CRA member, a past CRA member, or have registered for a recent event, please keep your eye out for a welcome email including your new login credentials over the next week.  Login, check it out, join or renew your membership, and register for the 2017 Conference and Trade Show in Myrtle Beach at the Kingston Plantation!

Acquisition Expands Coastal Wire's Footprint

Coastal Wire Company, Inc. announced its acquisition of all assets of Casa Grande Wire and Cable, Inc. (CG) of Casa Grande, AZ. The acquisition of the privately-owned producer of galvanized wire products will give Coastal Wire Company a broader geographic foot print and expanded product line.  Coastal Wire Company President and CEO, Doug Wendel Jr. commented, "This purchase fits well with our strategic growth strategy of expansion---expanding not only our manufacturing capabilities but expanding our geographic footprint."  Adds Wendel, "Casa Grande represents a unique opportunity as a fully-functional, high-volume manufacturing line with an excellent existing customer base in both recycling and agricultural products."

Coastal Wire will take over operations effective immediately, and will manufacture and ship from both Casa Grande, AZ and Georgetown, SC facilities.
