Snap Circuits
Snap Circuits Arcade
This kit can be used to help your students begin to learn how  electrical circuits a re created and the power necessary to complete the machines.

Snap Circuits Arcade
This kit is much like the original Snap Circuits kit, but adds games
to be played depending on how the circuit board is set up. Students can get a quick introduction to pro
gramming and coding from the activities offered.

Code-a-piller
Code-a-piller
This kit is excellent for teaching young  learners
 problem solving,
experimentation, and open-ended thinking via coding. Great for
kindergarten classes because of the lights and sounds of the Code-a-pillar.

Bloxels
Bloxels is an advanced kit that allows the student to use their
Bloxels
creativity to create a video game of their own design. This kit prompts critical  th inking skills and experimentation all while maintaining your student's attention.

Makey Makey
This kit is great for lessons about natural energy production and
conductivity. Creating activities from this software highlights new
Makey Makey
ways  of using sustainable energy sources to students.

Solar Cell Kit
Solar Cell Classroom Sets have all the equipment to allow  hands-on  explorations of solar power and electricity. They contain enough
solar cells,  motors, and equipment to engage a classroom full of students. Activities using the Solar Schoolhouse Solar Cell Classroom Set range from kindergarten classes experiencing the photovoltaic effect (sunlight makes the motor spin) to colleges and
t rade s chools plotting  the IV curves of solar modules.
Solar Cell Kit

SolRun Kit
Motor bushings slide onto the motor shaft, and into the hub-hole of
any of the three sizes of pulleys or five sizes of gears, giving a wide selection of direct solar drives. Experiment with different gear
ratios and pulley combinations, as well as different drive mechanisms.

Solar Oven
Solar Oven
This activity is perfect for teaching your students about alternative
energy so urces and keeping them attentive with an edible award!
The solar oven requires minimal set up and clean up, so it is great
for a quick lesson.

Advanced Wind Kit
This kit is an introductory activity to the engineering behind wind energy. Students will construct a windmill while learning about the
Advanced Wind Kit
physic necessary to propel the machines and create the energy
that  they store.

McGuyver Wind Kit
This wind kit is geared for experimentation in harvesting the full potential of wind energy by allowing them to use different materials  to discern the most effective method to catching the wind.
Meet the New Sustainability Coordinator

My name is Sarah McCracken, and  I am so excited to join the Sustainability team at the City of Denton! I have been with the city for almost 3 years previously serving in Community  Improvement Services and Watershed Protection.
I am originally from Hurst, Texas where I got my
Associates from Tarrant County Community
College in Early Childhood Education. I then received my Bachelors in Geography from the University of North Texas where I am also working on my Masters in Public Administration. I served in AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps for two years in California and received the Presidential Lifetime Call to Service Medal for completing over 4,000 hours of community service. In my spare time I enjoy hiking with my husband and two German Shepherds (Apollo and Artemis).

2017-2018 Participating Schools
