The Miami Marlins' Giancarlo Stanton, seen here during an earlier visit to AT&T Park, hit his 50th home run over the weekend and is on pace to hit 62 home runs for the season. Stanton hopes to pass Babe Ruth, with 60 home runs in 1927, and Roger Maris, with 61 home runs in 1961. Photo by Ed Jay. |

More of the same! In the top of the fifth inning Braun grounded into a double play, Tomlison to Crawford to Jones and Braun was again out at first base. But in the ninth inning, he managed a soft ground ball for single, going 1-for-4 on the day. The Brewers would ultimately prevail, 4-3. Photo by Rich Yee. |

In the eighth inning, Giants catcher Nick Hundley was at second base with two outs when Denard Span laced a single to right field. Hundley was waved home by

San Francisco Giants Update:
The Giants had another sluggish week at the plate, resulting in a 2-4 week that spoiled a couple of quality starts from the pitching staff. In these six games, the Giants scored three or fewer runs in five of them, four of which resulted in a loss. The Giants took two out of three at home against the Milwaukee Brewers before getting swept in Arizona by the Diamondbacks. The Brewers wins came courtesy of Chris Stratton and Matt Moore, who each went six innings strong before Sam Dyson would close them out. These performances highlighted an excellent week from the Giants starters, who are about to get more help as the homestretch of the season approaches. Johnny Cueto, currently on the Disabled List with a flexor tendon strain, is set to rejoin the club after one more rehab start. Once he returns, it will be up to manager Bruce Bochy to decide whether the team finishes the season with a six-man rotation or rests one of the other five starters. This week the Giants head to Southern California to face the San Diego Padres before coming home to play the St. Louis Cardinals.

Oakland A's

Athletics first baseman Matt "Oly" Olson fields a throw from pitcher Kendall "Digger" Graveman, keeping an aggressive Texas Rangers base runner close to first base. Graveman would go seven strong innings on Friday evening at the Coliseum, yielding only one run and with the win, raising his record to 4-4. Final score: A's 3, Rangers 1. Photo by Rich Yee.

The Oakland Athletics defeated the Texas Rangers, 8 -3, on Dennis Eckersley Bobblehead Day at the Oakland Coliseum on Saturday, Aug. 26. Ann Cooke, who worked for the A's while Eckersley was a member of the team, happily displays her prize.

|
|
Jed "Jed" Lowrie took his cuts against the Texas Rangers but the evening's fireworks were provided by A's outfielder Khris "Khrush" Davis, who launched a pair of home runs and provided the margin of victory in the A's 3-1 win.

Oakland Athletics Update:
The Athletics began to find their groove this week, posting their first week with a winning record since early August. The A's dropped two out of three in Baltimore, with the rubber match going to extras to decide the series. The Athletics came back from a five-run deficit to tie the game in the ninth before Manny Machado ended it for the Orioles with a solo shot. Nonetheless, the A's were able to carry this momentum back to Oakland, sweeping the Rangers through a combination of explosive offense and sound pitching from both the starters and bullpen. In roster news, the Athletics parted ways with center fielder Rajai Davis, who was traded to the Red Sox as they begin their playoff push. In return, the A's received Rafael Rincones, an outfielder who has spent this season playing in the Dominican Summer League. This was Davis' second stint in Oakland after he signed a one-year deal to return to the East Bay last off season. (Davis' first stint with the A's was in 2008-2010.) This week the Athletics hit the road for divisional play against the Los Angeles Angels
and Seattle Mariners.
