The Men's Group: Matt Kingdon on Innovation
The co-founder of "?What If?' and author of The Science of Serendipity: How to Unlock the Promise of Innovation in Large Organizations, Matt Kingdon is a thought leader in the corporate consulting field.  His views on how to inspire and implement change in corporations have applicability to the psychology of change in one's personal life as well.  In the next meeting of the Men's Group on Saturday, October 21, 2017 (10:15 to 11:30 AM), we will review his ideas and discuss their implications for personal improvement efforts.

The next meeting of the Men's Group will be on October 21, 2017, 10:15 to 11:30 AM at The Water Garden Business Center, 23421 South Pointe Drive, Suite 130, Laguna Hills, CA, 92653.  The fee is $25.00.  If you plan to attend, please RSVP to me at 949-338-4388 or at [email protected]. Space is limited to the first 14 persons who register to attend.  Please note that this group is psychoeducational and does not constitute psychotherapy.

The Relationship Group: The "Evanescent Self"
Notions of becoming an "authentic self" have proliferated the popular culture and have been a central focus of the fields of psychology and philosophy.  But what does authenticity really mean, and how does one know whether he or she is actually being authentic in one's life, especially in one's significant relationships?

In my own pursuit of the answers to these questions in psychotherapy practice with patients who struggle with finding their identity, I have been influenced by the philosopher Elizabeth Anscombe who writes extensively about the "true self" and how it may emerge.  The "evanescent self" is a term she uses to describe the sudden, rather mysterious experiences of  arriving at one's "true" self that, in her view, are commonly interrupted by a return to more extensive periods of losing whatever it was that was "true."  The fleeting nature of self-experience that Anscombe characterizes resonates with the challenges many patients regularly describe to me in psychotherapy.

The perspective of evanescence has considerable implications for the pursuit of one's truth in adult life and intimate relationships.  In the next meeting of the Relationship Group on Saturday, October 21, 2017 (11:45 AM to 1:00 PM), I will unpack "the evanescent self" and describe its relevance for personal change and self-improvement.

The next meeting of the Relationship Group will be on October 21, 2017, 11:45 AM to 1:00 PM  at The Water Garden Business Center, 23421 South Pointe Drive, Suite 130, Laguna Hills, CA, 92653.  The fee is $25.00.  If you plan to attend, please RSVP to me at 949-338-4388 or at [email protected]. Space is limited to the first 14 persons who register to attend.  Please note that this group is psychoeducational and does not constitute psychotherapy.
