Carbon monoxide safety tips

Carbon monoxide (CO) is known as the silent killer because it is invisible, tasteless and odourless. CO is produced when fuels such as propane, gasoline, natural gas, heating oil or wood do not completely burn in appliances such as furnaces, fireplaces, hot water heaters, stoves, barbeques, generators and vehicles.

It is essential to have a working carbon monoxide detector on each level of your home. CO detectors should be checked on a monthly basis along with your smoke detectors to ensure they are in working order.

For more information on carbon monoxide visit the Fire Prevention Canada website at www.fiprecan.ca/quick-facts-on-co
