UVM Lane Series presents
the Semer Ensemble at the UVM Rital Hall on Monday, November 13 at 7:30 pm (Pre-show Talk with Artists in Hall, 6:30pm).
"The Semer Ensemble has brought the musicians of 1930s Berlin back to life after decades of silence."- Songlines
In 1938, on Kristallnacht, in Berlin, the entire archive and storehouse of an important repository of Jewish records and music was destroyed. Believing that this material must still exist somewhere in the form of sheet music and records sold to patrons, German musicologist Dr. Rainer E. Lotz has made it his life's work to seek out these many rare examples of Jewish music produced by Semer Records. An all-star cast of musicians from Europe and the United States has formed the Semer Ensemble to bring this recovered music to the public for the first time. The often dramatic, emotional songs range from klezmer, to cabaret, to prayer music. Led by the great Alan Bern (Brave Old World) and including Yiddish vocalist Lorin Sklamberg (Klezmatics) and more, this is an astonishing evening of the Golden Age of Jewish Music that was almost lost to history and violence.

This weekly group meets from 11:00am until Noon to read and discuss Jewish History books. It is recommended that you purchase the book (click the photo), if you plan to participate in the class. The class is free open to everyone.

Social Action Opportunity
(Updated Information)
For this Mitzvah Project, we plan to create hygiene care bags for the Homeless and Women's Shelters in Chittenden County.
All congregants are asked to participate by bringing any new, unused personal care hygiene items (preferably travel-sized) to the Temple. Desired items for the bag include: shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, shaving cream, soap, razors, chap stick, Kleenex, wash cloths,
new or gently used socks- mens, womens, children (no holes or stains), warm gloves and hats, small backpacks- new or gently used, gift cards to Dunkin Donuts or McDonalds, Bus passes. These items will be delivered to COTS, A NEW PLACE, and STEPS TO END DOMESTIC VIOLENCE (New name of the Women's Shelter).
