Are you always grateful for a nice pillow to rest your head on...
... or for a warm blanket at night, for personal hygiene items, fresh fruit, or the company of others?  If you answered "no" , then you are like most of us who have many blessings  but don't always notice  or appreciate them.   One way to increase our awareness and gratitude  is to serve those less fortunate,  and the SET Ministry's (setinc.org) annual Holiday Cheer event for senior citizens ( December 3, 2016 this year) is a wonderful way to do this.
Why do Catholics...
Light 4 or 5 candles during the Advent Season

Advent (ad-venio in Latin or "to come to") is a time of waiting, expectation, and preparation for the birth of Jesus the Christ, the world's savior, on Christmas Day.  Advent is the beginning of the Church's liturgical year and is comprised of the four Sundays before Christmas culminating on Christmas Eve and marked by special seasonal devotions.  During Advent, we are called to prepare for the birth of the Christ into the world, and His final coming at the end of the world, and His coming into our hearts today.  There are many ways to prepare for Advent with your family and loved ones.  Some popular Advent activities and devotions are the lighting of the Advent wreath each Sunday and using a daily Advent calendar.  Advent prayers are also a popular way to join with the Church in prayer during this special liturgical season.

We have just celebrated the first week of Advent lighting the first candle on our Parish Advent Wreath.  For most Catholics, Advent calendars and or Advent wreaths are a favorite way of leading their way through the Advent season.  We will look at Advent Wreaths, some may not be aware of the meaning and symbolism of the tradition of lighting 4 or 5 candles, around a Wreath.  Lighting just 1 each week during the Advent season.

Matthew 5:14-16

You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden.
Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house.
Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.

The Communications Committee is looking for working members.  This is an active ministry that works with our web site, Facebook page and E-Newsletter.  The committee meets in the parish office conference room the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM we are usually finished by 8:30 PM.  You don't have to be a techno wiz; if you love to write and report on parish activities we welcome you.  We need you to help bring the story of St. Mathias Parish forward.  If you are interested, please call the parish office (414) 321-0893 or e-mail.

Thank you

In the Year of Mercy, every Christian family can become a privileged place on this pilgrimage for experiencing the joy of forgiveness. Forgiveness is the essence of the love which can understand mistakes and mend them.

Sister Parish Committee
In Mexico our Catholic Priests are being attacked and need our Prayers.  Please keep them in your Prayers, especially our sister Parish Santa Maria de los Angeles in Arambarri, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.

Would also be an excellent idea to keep the World Church in your prayers as well.
