ShadowBox training allows CYF staff to "see the world through the eyes of experts"

In an effort to build critical thinking skills for new caseworkers, the Department of Human Services (DHS) Office of Children, Youth, and Families (CYF) recently began piloting the ShadowBox training technique.

More than 300 professionals in aging from six counties gathered November 2 for the third annual Allegheny County Area Agency on Aging (AAA) annual conference.

More than 50 students from graduate programs around the county gathered November 9-12 to offer innovative human service solutions during the 10th annual DHS Local Government Case Competition
New Report: An Evaluation of the Family Support Center Network 

An evaluation of 25 Allegheny County Family Support Centers looked at the operation and impact of individual Centers as well as the network as a whole, in five specific areas: family empowerment; connection to social services, early child development and school readiness; maternal and child health; and child abuse and neglect. This report describes the network, summarizes the network-wide findings, and offers a number of recommendations for strengthening the network and improving its outcome. A CYF caseworker recently sent an email commending two case aides, Candice Sekely and Deborah Cooney, for their attentive, caring work with a child who is currently in foster care.
