These brief "classifieds" are intended to keep the members of the Diocese abreast of programs and activities in our parishes, share position openings throughout the Diocese, and to let others know if we have excess good/items they might be able to use. As in many "Classified Ads", articles should not exceed 150 words in length (total, and no graphics) and may be submitted to J.D. Programs

Knowing and Living Into Our Spiritual Gifts with the Rev. Frank Allen on Saturday, January 14, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at St. Thomas' Church, Whitemarsh. The Philadelphia Theological Institute and St. Thomas' Church, Whitemarsh invite you to engage in this discernment workshop to identify your spiritual gifts, discover which ministries need your individual gifts and then reflect on your ministries and whether they represent the best mix of your community's gifts. Our time together will include an exploration of the history of the Holy Spirit, a gifts inventory that will unfold the gifts God has given you, and some direction about how to best exercise these gifts for the life of the parish and the world. Forums/Discussion Groups

Holy Spirit, Harleysville welcomes Advent with a program on "The Spirituality of Waiting" at the 9 a.m. adult forum on Sundays, December 4 and 11. Participants are reading and discussing the book, Seven Spiritual Gifts of Waiting by the Rev. Holly Whitcomb. This allows us to grow deeper in our faith and get reading to receive the Christ child into our hearts.

Join Redemption Episcopal Church in Southampton for its annual 
Breakfast with Santa and Mini Fair
, Saturday, December 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. This annual event is one of the largest fundraising opportunities for the Church. All are welcome. Each child receives a picture with Santa, balloon and Candy Cane. Baked goods, crafts, fresh wreaths and Christmas plants will be available for purchase. Advance tickets are $5/child and $6/adult. Rummages/Fairs/Flea Markets

Holiday Bazaar at Trinity Memorial Church on Saturday, December 3, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fresh Christmas wreaths and bows, raffle baskets, silent auction, craft vendors, homemade baked goods, kids' book readings, and gingerbread decorating. Fair Trade coffee and chocolate and gently used gifts. Lunch at Café Noel. The church is located at 22nd and Spruce Streets.

Services

Isaiah does Advent. Come and join people at Trinity Church, Gulph Mills for a Monday night Advent Series. Bring your own dinner to eat with others at 6:00 p.m., which is followed by Evening Prayer. Program begins at 7:00, with meditations and reflections on some of the art inspired by the readings from Isaiah which we read in Advent in Year A. December 5, 12 and 19. Music

Gloria Dei (Old Swedes') Church presents the Lucia Fest, a colorful, musical pageant, featuring singers and a procession of children wearing crowns of live candles, representative of St. Lucia on Friday, December 9 at 6 and 8 p.m., Saturday, December 10 at 2, 3:30 and 5 p.m., and on Sunday, December 11 at 2, 3:30 and 5 p.m. It is a unique opportunity to witness an authentic Swedish holiday tradition, especially because it is held in a 300-year-old church built by Swedish settlers. A Scandinavian Christmas bazaar - St. Eric's Fair - will be open before and after each showtime, with imported goods, food & drink available for purchase. Adults - $ 13, Children under 12 - $ 7. Doylestown Borough Homes Decorated for the Season and enjoy Tea at the parish hall. Advance Tickets ($25) are available through December 1st. Purchase advance tickets on-line at www.StPaulsDoylestown.org  or in person at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church or FX Dougherty (64 S. Main St.). Tour Day Tickets are $30. Tickets are non-refundable. Holiday Boutique opens at 5 p.m. on Friday and at 11 a.m. on Saturday with free admission, featuring Bake Table, boxed butter cookies, raffles, Christmas Attic. Music

Exciting local music is coming to Incarnation Holy Sacrament Episcopal Church . Starting in September, and running through the fall and winter months, IHS Drexel Hill will be hosting a Coffee House Open Mic and Concert Series. We'll bring in two local musicians to play longer sets and open the rest of the time up for members of the audience to share songs. Requests for Items

A Call for Socks to Benefit the Homeless. Did you know there are about 300 homeless people in Bucks County? Homeless people don't have frequent access to laundry facilities. So when their socks get wet, they risk getting trench foot, or even frostbite. They need dry socks to stay healthy. Last year the parish of St. Philip's collected well over 500 pairs of socks to distribute. This year, the Bucks County Herald has teamed up with St. Philip's Episcopal Church, New Hope, to appeal to the whole community to donate socks for the area's homeless people. We welcome all donations of new socks for men and socks, stockings, leggings and panty hose for women. Some children's socks are also welcome, but primarily those for adults. Help give Christmas Stockings a new meaning: when you are out shopping for the holiday, buy some socks for the homeless in our own community. Place them into the big blue tub on the porch of St. Philip's Episcopal Church, 10 Chapel Road, New Hope (the historic one-room schoolhouse at the corner of River Road and Chapel Road).

Gift/Thrift Shops

The Catacomb Closet at Holy Trinity Church at 212 S. High Street, West Chester, operates an upscale resale shop selling a variety of housewares, books, jewelry, children's toys, adult and children's clothing, pictures, entertaining and decorative glassware, as well as seasonal items at bargain prices. It is open to the general public every Friday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. All proceeds are donated to charitable organizations within our community and the Diocese and to those causes affected by tragic world events.

Saint Michael's Episcopal Church in Yeadon, PA (just southwest of Philadelphia) is seeking a talented, joyful, engaging and industrious Part-Time Minister of Music (5 to10 hours/weekly) to develop further, lead, and grow our music program. Volunteers

Volunteers needed at the Cathedral Food Pantry. Every Monday the Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral Food Pantry distributes nourishing food to 150 households. We need help with food distribution on Mondays and help with receiving the food on alternate Wednesdays. Teachers

St. Paul's Elkins Park , a multicultural and inclusive Episcopal Church, is looking for Two Paid Sunday School Teachers to teach two classes - Ages 5 to 10 and ages 11 to 15.
