More Event Details

Do you love to draw and paint?  Do you love horses?

Then come to this fun workshop where you will learn the basics for drawing a horse’s face and neck.  It can be tricky to accurately compose a horse’s head, face, and expression; however I will happily show you some great techniques for drawing a great horse portrait!

Do you just love the way horses look at you with such expressive eyes? The way they toss their manes and arch their necks?  Come do some Creative Horse Play with me, and let’s have an adventure learning how to draw these amazing, strong, beautiful animals!

I will help you draw and then add some color to your horse portrait, and you will make this piece of art YOUR OWN HORSE!  Use your imagination as well, and create some of your favorite designs on your horse.

Ready to have fun?  Please join ourworkshop!

About Melanie Stanley

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Art Education (Fine Arts), a Master of Arts in Special Education, and endorsements in Social Studies and K-12 School Administration.  I have 40 years experience teaching children, teenagers, and adults and have loved encouraging the arts throughout my life.  I worked as an assistant principal and enjoyed sharing art experiences with all of my students.  I have taught in both Maryland and Virginia, and in the last five years I have taught fine arts (drawing, painting, collage, equestrian art, watercolor, art journaling, and mixed media) in Winchester, Leesburg, and Herndon.  I am a member of the Reston League of Artists and the Shenandoah Council for the Arts. I love teaching mixed media because it welcomes fresh, unique ideas while encouraging the artist to truly explore the possibilities with a variety of art materials/tools and techniques.  I exhibit in galleries throughout Virginia, have won 5 awards for my artwork (including two Juror’s Choice Awards and a Second Place Award), facilitate ART TALK (Local artists who meet monthly at Art Space), work in my home studio, and continue to enhance my expertise by taking numerous art classes and workshops.  I have written six children’s books that have been published and enjoy writing and creating art…and inspiring others to find their artistic voice! Melanie owns her own horse and has studied horse anatomy for years!
