Senators Urge EPA to Implement RMP Amendments
Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Tom Carper (D-DE) are asking the Environmental Protection Agency to "Immediately Implement" amendments to the agency's Risk Management Program rule.
 
In a letter to the EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt, the senators state:
 
"We are writing to urge you to withdraw the June 14, 2017 final rule delaying implementation of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Amendments to the Accidental Release Prevention Requirements for Risk Management Programs under the Clean Air Act. We ask that you immediately implement these critical safeguards to ensure protections for first responders, facility workers, and communities living adjacent to chemical facilities."

Has the Hydrofluorocarbon Phase Out Been Stopped in its Tracks?   
   
In August, a federal appeals court rejected a U.S. EPA regulation requiring manufactures to phase out hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerants for chemicals that are less potent greenhouse gases.  
 
The 2015 regulation, created during the Obama administration, limited HFCs in refrigerants, vehicle air conditioners, coolers in groceries and other retail stores, and vending machines. The rule also limited the use of these chemicals as foam blowing agents and in aerosol cans. Read more

9 New Chemical Skin Notation Profiles
     
NIOSH recently published skin notation profiles for nine chemicals. The list includes:
  • trichloroethylene (TCE)
  • 1-bromopropane (1-BP
  • arsenic and inorganic arsenic containing compounds
  • disulfoton
  • heptachlor
  • 2-hydroxypropyl acrylate (HPA)
  • dimethyl sulfate (DMS)
  • tetraethyl lead (TEL)
  • tetramethyl lead (TML).

Status of the new ISO 45001 Standard  
Work on the new ISO 45001 Standard ( Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems Standard - Requirements) has made recent progress, receiving approval on its latest draft from member countries of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and those involved in the standard's development. The approval keeps ISO 45001 on schedule for the anticipated publication in February 2018. However, progress on the standard depends on the outcome of a September ISO Project Committee 283 meeting in Malaysia.  Read More
N95 Day - September 5th   
N95 Day 2017 is September 5th! Since 2012, NIOSH has used N95 Day to primarily focus on N95 respirators. This year, the agency plans to expand the conversation "beyond the N95" to other types of respiratory protection. During NIOSH's annual N95 Day webinar on Sept. 5, two experts from the agency's National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory (NPPTL) will discuss respirator options beyond the N95 filtering facepiece respirator, including elastomeric respirators and powered air-purifying respirators.
