Welcome to the 2017-18 School Year!
Meet Wilma and Willy Wildcat, Dallastown's friendly, furry mascots.
Along with district administrat
ors, faculty, staff, and the Dallastown Area Board of School Directors, we welcome you to a new school year!

A Wildcat Welcome
Changes in district leadership beginning the 2017-18 school year include the appointments of Dr. Zachary Fletcher, principal of Dallastown Area High School, and Kurt Rohrbaugh, director of business operations.
We also welcome 18 new teachers, a new human resources benefits coordinator, and 11 support staff, who began their orientation and teacher induction activities on Tuesday, August 15th.
Let's extend a warm Wildcat Welcome to each!

How Did We Spend Our Summer?
We often hear, "What do you do here over the summer?" It's true that the pace is different, and there are opportunities for relaxing family vacations. But, in other ways, summer throughout the Dallastown Area School District moves at a much faster pace.
Cleaning schools, upgrading facilities, making repairs, and other buildings and grounds maintenance occurs in a compressed time frame. Hiring and orientation of staff members takes place throughout the summer.
This summer, faculty members participated in over 41 district-led courses and workshops and 170 curriculum writing sessions. Faculty members and administrators also engaged in graduate courses, education conferences, and professional development workshops.
Student opportunities included sports, technology, and fine arts camps and clinics, LIEP family fun, and other activities.
Dallastown Area School District was a busy place to be all summer long!

Dallastown Area Educational Foundation
Again this year, the DAEF has compiled a district calendar being sold for $10. The calendar is available for purchase in school building offices and during various district events. Special thanks are extended to board volunteers Teresa Cooksey and Jill Thornley for coordinating the calendar project.
COMING UP: Next week's DASD E-News Weekly will include details on the DAEF/DFS Committee Fall Festival being held Saturday, September 23rd. Its annual "Run for the One" 5K run/walk will be held on the same date.

York County Alliance for Learning (YCAL)
York County Alliance for Learning (YCAL) offers a variety of career exploration programs for high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. These programs provide hands-on experience, preparation and guidance for students' future careers. Most programs meet after school on a consistent basis and focus on a career pathway.
Business representatives attend each meeting and guide students. Dallastown Area High School's school-to-work coordinator can provide more information.
