cropwalkArlington CROP Walk
October 28

Let's fight against hunger together with a 5K/10K walk around Arlington!

CROP Hunger Walks are community-wide events that bring people together in a common mission: helping hungry people at home and around the world. AFAC is the local charity beneficiary and will get 25% of the proceeds from this event.

Please, consider joining Team AFAC and walking to raise much needed funds and awareness for hunger here in Arlington and around the globe. The steps we take - and the funds we raise - will make a real impact!

volunteeringVolunteer Needs
The Douglas Park neighborhood (not far from AFAC) is hosting an outdoor Trail of Terrors on Saturday, October 28. We need two volunteers to sit (outside, regardless of weather) from 6-9 pm. We promise that this job is not scary, but we can't say the same for the rest of the event!

Saturday, November 4, we will be gleaning in Winchester for the last day of the season, weather permitting from 9-11 am. We still have many spots available. For this particular day, lunch is provided with some fun festivities at the conclusion.

Saturday, November 4 is the annual Harvest Festival at St. Michael's Episcopal Church. We could use two volunteers per shift to help sell our fabulous tote bags from 10 am-12 pm and another two can help from 2-4 pm

Friday afternoons: We're looking for volunteers to sort and bag the food donations that come in from local grocery stores.

Office help: We need some help scanning some older documents in our office. We've set aside the time from 3:00-4:30 pm for this task and we think Wednesday is the best day for it (though we could be flexible). In addition to scanning, you might be asked to stuff envelopes or help organize in some other capacity. You must have a little bit of technical know-how, since you'll be working on the computer and our commercial copying machine.

For any of the above items, please go to our website at www.afac.org and sign up using the online calendar.

Baking: If you enjoy baking, this is a good volunteer project for you!  We are delivering thank you baskets containing baked goods to all of the farmers who donate produce to us throughout the year.  Cookies, brownies and mini-loaves of bread are perfect for the gift baskets.  They will be delivered to 6 different farmers markets in Arlington near the end of October.  The goodies need to be dropped off on Monday, October 23rd by 1:00 PM. If this sounds like a fun project but the timing is wrong, we'll be making thank you baskets for our grocery store and other partners in December and we'll need homemade treats then too.  For more information, email Jocalyn Lombardi at jocalyn.lombardi@afac.org.

Drivers: We're starting to ramp up our driving season, delivering food drive boxes and picking up small-medium food drives. If you have flexibility during the work week, have a decent sized car, and love to drive to different parts of Arlington, this is the job for you. We can work with your schedule and areas. If you'd like to help with this effort, please email volunteer4afac@afac.org. Our busy season is November 1-January 8. This is also a fantastic temporary volunteer job for college kids home for winter break.
