Welcome to the Christ Church e-Communicator.

This weekly publication is designed to give you the most up-to-date information on events here in the parish. Please feel free to forward it to a friend. If you wish to contribute or have comments about its content, please contact the parish office at  [email protected].
Pray for the people of Northern California, who continue to suffer in so many ways from this past week's fires. Pray for comfort in time of immense loss and fear; pray for those who have died and for their loved ones; pray for those still listed as missing and those who anxiously wait to hear anything; and pray for the exhausted crews fighting fires and sheltering the displaced. I would encourage you to give what you can to relieve the immediate needs of people who have lost everything. The Diocese of Northern California is receiving donations, as is Incarnation Episcopal Church in Santa Rosa. That congregation has been at the center of relief efforts.

This week San Diego marks the 10 year anniversary of the Witch Creek Fire, the most devastating fire here in memory, and this diocese knows how powerful the gifts of others can be. Please be generous!

The Rt. Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori
Assisting Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego

A Stewardship Reflection
Larry Ash

" William M. Golden composed his famous gospel hymn "A Beautiful Life" in 1918 while serving time in the Mississippi state penitentiary. This wonderful song provided the prescription for leading a beautiful life. His plan was simple: help other people. As blogger David Cain said, "Whatever caused Golden's descent into prison, that didn't stop God from working in him. Perhaps all of us should think of ourselves in a prison..." (http://songscoops.blogspot.com/2015/04/a-beautiful-life-william-matthew-golden.html)
            Fortunately, we do not have to go to the penitentiary to be penitent.  Listen to God and do what we are told.  This lies at the heart of good stewardship. Whatever your time and talents, you too, can let your light shine and make a beautiful life at Christ Church.
Here are the first two verses of Golden's song, with the refrain.  Notice what he said about letting your light shine
.
Each day I'll do a golden deed,
By helping those who are in need;
My life on earth is but a span,
And so I'll do the best I can.

Refrain:
Life's evening sun is sinking low,
A few more days, and I must go
To meet the deeds that I have done,
Where there will be no setting sun.

To be a child of God each day,
My light must shine along the way;
I'll sing His praise while ages roll,
And strive to help some troubled soul.

Service and Outreach
Youth Group to help fire victims
  You can too!

The Christ Church Youth Group is joining with other Episcopal youth groups from around the diocese to collect supplies that will be sent to aid victims of the fires in Northern California.

The youth group is hoping to collect baby wipes (soft sided packages), toiletries (travel size), face masks, individually wrapped snacks, hand sanitizer, and reusable shopping bags (these need to be in good condition, but not new). Bring your items to church Sunday, October 22 and Sunday, October 29th. Youth group members will be on hand to thank you personally and to pack the items for transport up the coast!

Donate Your Empty Pill Bottles
  Sending medicines to developing countries

In honor of St. Luke the Physician, we are starting a new ministry effort at Christ Church. We are accepting donations of empty prescription and over-the-counter pill bottles to send to Matthew 25: Ministries ( m25m.org), a group who uses the expensive bottles to send medicines to the developing world. Look for the orange donation bucket in the courtyard in October and drop in your empty pill bottles.

All bottles must have plastic lids (it's okay if they're not child-resistant). Remove your personal information from prescription bottles before donating them, if possible.
