Roxbury Alumni In the News

Roxbury Native Becomes Middle School Principal in Spotswood
Roxbury's Brian Kitchin was chosen recently to be principal at Memorial Middle School in Spotswood, a Middlesex County borough near Raritan Bay.

Kitchin, the son of Succasunna dentist Dr. Lloyd Kitchin, was approved by the Spotswood Board of Education at the July board meeting.  Kitchin is in the process of meeting his new staff as they come in to set up their classrooms as he settles into his new office and surroundings at Memorial. He said he is looking forward to when he has the entire group together in a couple of weeks as the countdown to the first day of school in the district ticks on.

Kitchin is a veteran educator, having taught physical education for nine years in the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District at the elementary and middle school levels. He also served as the administrator in charge of the district's after school enrichment program and spent time as a lacrosse coach as well. Kitchin, a former Roxbury High School lacrosse player, coached the freshmen lax team at Bridgewater-Raritan High School.

Roxbury Eclipse Gazers Undaunted by Come-and-Go Clouds
The parking lot of Horseshoe Lake Park in Succasunna turned into a solar eclipse viewing party today as people watched the big event from inside cars, on top of cars and next to cars.

Patchy clouds that moved in and out of the way during the afternoon did little to hamper the view for those gathered at the park. Approved eclipse viewing glasses were hard to come by, so some who came to watch the moon partially block the sun had to practice the arts of sharing and self-restraint (looking everywhere but up when a friend was using the ultra-dark shades).  Click here to read more from Tap Into Roxbury.

The procedure, which went flawlessly, is part of a  plan to make the structure and the front of the library more purposeful. Now that the gazebo is closer to Main Street, it will be used for music, lectures, book readings and other performances because the area between it and the library can be used for seating.  Click here to read more about this old Gazebo from Tap Into Roxbury.
