Honors Students Donate to Hurricane Harvey Victims

After hearing of the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey, Honors students decided to make a difference by collecting school supplies and toiletries on behalf of those impacted.

The Houston Independent School District serves roughly 215,000 students, many of whom have been displaced due to the extensive damage caused by the hurricane. KSU Honors student and Peer Mentor Katie Tran took the initiative to become further involved by making the project her applied Leadership Project for the Honors Colloquium: Leadership in Action. Katie made signs for the initiative, brought in a large donation, and encouraged her Honors KSU 1101 class to get involved.
Honors Student Receives Association of Energy Engineers Scholarship

Addie Thornton is a Civil Engineering major and Honors student on the Marietta campus. She was invited  to attend the  World Energy Engineering Congress (WEEC) Conference  to present  to international students about the KSU chapter of the  Association of Energy Engineers (AEE). While attending the conference, Addie was presented with a $1,000 AEE scholarship from the local AEE Georgia Chapter and the Council on Women in Energy & Environmental Leadership (CWEEL).

"With this scholarship, I will be able to continue working toward my B.S. degree in civil engineering while keeping my interest on energy and sustainability at the forefront. There is no doubt that this scholarship will help me tremendously next semester and it absolutely motivates me to keep moving forward."

The President's Emerging Global Scholars (PEGS) Program Transitions to the Honors College

We are excited to announce the return of the President's Emerging Global Scholars (PEGS) program to the Honors College. The mission of the PEGS program is to accelerate the personal, professional, and academic development of exceptional Honors students. PEGS cohort students benefit from a unique and intentional curriculum designed to promote leadership, scholarship, global education, and overall student success.

In addition to the many advantages of membership in the Honors College such as priority registration and optional Honors housing, PEGS students will be encouraged to grow in leadership skills and experiences through their Honors classes and co-curricular activities. In addition, the PEGS student cohort will participate in an exclusive set of courses and international education experiences.

Peer Mentor Spotlight

This year, the Honors College selected its inaugural group of Honors Peer Mentors. Peer Mentors are outstanding University Honors Program students who support the transition of new students to the University Honors Program.

Matthew Hunnicutt is pursuing his undergraduate degree in Business Management and assists Dean Rita Bailey in her Honors KSU 1101 class. Matthew has enjoyed his Peer Mentor role and shared, "being a Peer Mentor has been an incredible experience. Seeing the hard work and dedication from the students that I work with motivates me to push myself harder. It has made me a better leader, and a better student. If you want to work with the Honors College, this is the way to do it."

Elizabeth Burnside is a Software Engineering major on the Marietta campus and assists Dr. Kami Anderson in her Honors KSU 1101 class. As an aspiring high school teacher, Elizabeth says that "b eing a Peer Mentor has given me classroom experience in an environment that is geared towards learning how to learn. As a Peer Mentor, I am able to teach freshmen through my own success and failures. I am also learning from the professor I am working with: how to maintain a presence in the classroom and how to facilitate and guide discussion. My position as a Peer Mentor has put me in a position capable of impact."
