What's Lurking in your Lotion?

for
GGW's Nov. 5th "Friendraiser"

Join friends of Go Green Wilmette as we gather on Sunday, Nov. 5, 4 - 6pm at the beautiful Wilmette Wine Cellar to celebrate a year of progress and launch our new Green Grants program. Register now to reserve your spot. Your ticket includes two hours of wine and socializing with hors d'oeuvres. Treat yourself to some time with old and new friends while you support GGW. Organic wine will be offered.

Send Solar Lights to Puerto Rico

Chicago-based LuminAID is working with nonprofit partners to distribute solar lanterns, including models with phone chargers, to families in Puerto Rico without electricity after the hurricane. A $10 pledge covers the cost of one solar lantern and can be made here.  During the month of October, solar lantern sponsorships will be matched up to $10,000 by Chicago's Hanley Foundation, Invenergy and the Invenergy Future Fund.
(This is a great way for kids to get involved in the recovery.)

Northwestern Climate Change Symposium

Here's your chance to be a student at Northwestern! Attend NWU's Climate Change Symposium featuring plenaries and concurrent science, policy, and business session tracks for diverse perspectives and insight across topics pertaining to climate change and clean energy. More information and registration here.

Organic Wine Tasting

Join us for a special presentation with Robert Kowal of City Winery where participants will learn about the cultivating and importance of organic wine as they sip three different types of wine. Registration for this Greener Choices Program is required and is open to Wilmette and Kenilworth residents until November 10, followed by non-residents after that date. Please call the Library at 847-256-5025 to register. November 29 at 7:00

FEATURED PROJECT

"Shedd the Straw"

Go Green Wilmette is collaborating with the Shedd Aquarium to challenge Wilmette and Chicagoland to "Shedd the Straw." Restaurants and businesses can pledge to remove single-use plastic straws from their daily operations and residents can say "No straw please" when ordering drinks at restaurants and take-out establishments.

Look for more information in November on our website and find out more about Shedd's "Shedd the Straw" campaign here.

GOOD NEWS

Tree Walk a Big Success

We had a beautiful day for our 5th annual tree walk! Close to a 100 people attended this year's event including a whole brownie troop. People got a chance to enjoy Mallinckrodt Park and learn about our local trees from knowledgeable tree experts. Many thanks to the Village, the Park District and our tree walk guides.

WORTH A REMINDER

Electric Cars Take Off!

General Motors plans for an "all-electric future." The Chevy Bolt is Motor Trend's "Car of the Year." Many countries, including China, are planning to go all-electric in the next decade. Paris is planning to ban gas-powered cars by 2030.
Even California is considering banning gasoline and diesel engines.  GGW will have many electric cars on display at our Green Car exhibit on March 11, 2018, but don't wait - be part of a cleaner future now with an electric or hybrid car. Learn more at pluginamerica.org and greencarreports.com.
