Trinity Tidbits--Week of Last Pentecost

TOTH logo
In 1916, the author Lily Hardy Hammon wrote, "You don't pay love back. You pay it forward." That captures, in a sense, what it means to be a steward of the gifts God has given to us. God doesn't need our money or our time. But, God does call us to find ways to use our time, talents, and treasure to help all our fellow human beings. God's love was so abundantly given to us in the person and work of Jesus of Nazareth, and we are invited to respond to God's love and join with God in building up the Kingdom right here in our midst.  As we near the close of our stewardship season, I invite you to be in fervent prayer about how God is calling you to 'pay it forward' in generosity.  And remember, bring your pledge card this Sunday, November 20th, for our Consecration Sunday!
   Peace,
   Chris
Seasonal Giving Opportunities
Holiday Baskets - We are asking for monetary contributions to this fund which is used to provide financial help (in the form of Smith's Gift Cards) for the less fortunate in our own parish family and outside the church. To help with this effort, please make checks out to TOTH, earmark them "Holiday Baskets" and drop them in the collection plate from today through December 18.
Poinsettias will be taken to TOTH households grieving loss. You may contribute to this effort.
Adopt-a-Family - We have a few families left in need of adoption. These are households in the northern New Mexico community of Medanales. Each family is given the makings of a Christmas dinner, hats and gloves for each family member and a present for each child. The family details are in each packet in the Narthex. You, with your family, your group, or some friends, can do the shopping. Boxes are available in the TOTH office, so just box everything up and mark it for the family, and take it all to First United Methodist Church for pick up before Saturday December 10. For more information, talk to Marlane Hamilton. Help us share our bounty with these needy families!
Mitten Tree - The "mitten tree" will be set up in Kelly Hall and will remain up until after Christmas. We invite contributions of handmade or store-bought mittens, gloves, scarves, hats and slippers for people in need in Northern New Mexico. Just leave your contributions on the tree before January 6 (Epiphany).
Operation Christmas Child
We will have an all-ages shoebox packing party (with snacks) after the 10:30 am service this Sunday, November 20. Please go to https://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/pack-a-shoe-box/ for donation ideas. You can also donate shoeboxes or money to cover the $7 shipping cost for each box. Please let Mandie Gehring know if you have any questions about this project that spreads God's love to children around the world.

Children's Christmas Musical Rehearsals
Rehearsals for the 2016 ToTH Christmas Musical continue at 3pm on Sunday afternoons (except 11/27) until Christmas. In addition there will be a couple of mid-week rehearsals later in December. This year we will perform (DV) "Archangel Gabriel's Awesome Adventure", based on the Luke Gospel account, at the 5 pm Christmas Eve (12/24/16) Family Eucharist. All young people from K-9th are invited to take part. Rehearsals will run from 3:00 pm to 5 pm in the Sanctuary, finishing in time for Tweens/Teens. A decent break with a healthy snack will be provided half way through the rehearsal, and on afternoons where there is no Teens/Tweens we will conclude around 5 pm with a simple pizza/pasta/salad supper for all. There are chorus parts (shepherds, sheep, angels, townsfolk) and several solo roles (shepherds, Mary, Joseph, Archangel Gabriel et al.) for which auditions will be held on the morning of the Christmas Bazaar. Scripts, rehearsal CDs and schedules will be distributed at the first two rehearsals.
Older teens are very welcome to help with scenery, musical accompaniment and other stuff. The older members of the Youth Choir will also be singing carols at the 12/24 service.
Please contact John Singleton if you need further information.
ADOPT-A-FAMILY PROJECT UNDER WAY!
Thanks to those who have adopted half of the needy families we have been given.  This was a great start! Please prayerfully consider taking one of the five remaining families.  All instructions are in packets that are on display in the Narthex.  We really don't want to turn anyone away!  This is a wonderful way to teach children about the Christian giving aspect of Christmas.  Any questions at all, please contact Marlane Hamilton or Cathy Walters.
Donations for the Children's Bazaar on December 3rd

Save the date. Get ready for the Children's Christmas Bazaar! Meeting on Friday, November 18th in Sherrill Hall at 5 p.m. Everyone is invited who would like to know more about the bazaar. We will take a walk around the church to help familiarize people with what happens where during the event. Refreshments will be served.

We are in need of a team to head up the set up on Friday and a team to take charge of Kelly Hall sales on Saturday.  We need many volunteers for this event and many of you have helped in the past. The signup sheets will be out soon in the office and Narthex.

Out of town or can't help? Baked goods will also be needed for the event.

CROP Hunger Walk & Turkey Trot - this Sunday, November 20th
Trinity on the Hill is looking for a few good walkers and lots and lots of pledgers to support them in the annual Los Alamos CROP Hunger Walk and Turkey Trot. The event raises money in support of efforts to alleviate hunger at home and abroad. Twenty-five percent automatically goes to L.A. Cares while the balance goes to Church World Service/CROP, which partners with all denominational relief agencies in feeding the hungry and helping those living in poverty to grow their own food. Walkers can designate a greater percentage to L.A. Cares or to their own denominational relief agency.
Anyone can join the walk/trot: adults, kids, little ones pushed in strollers, people with dogs on leash. The Atomic City Runners co-sponsor the event. Turkeys and pies are given away in a drawing at the end, while event participants munch on snacks and rehydrate.
Registration starts at 1pm in the Middle School Cafeteria. The walk/race starts at 2pm. If you want to take part, see Cynthia in the office. You can get your walk/run pledging materials there, or you can pledge to support the TOTH team.
