"Growing Together" at Aster Assisted Living

For the residents of Aster Assisted Living, gardening is a revitalizing activity they are eager to participate in. In the past, residents have enjoyed spending time in the community beds at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, but this year they were given an opportunity to garden in their own backyard! Staff from Aster worked with the Healthy Lifestyles -Marshfield Area Coalition Garden Committee to install their own beds onsite, allowing more residents to participate in gardening.

After much planning and many hardworking hands, the elevated beds were constructed and ready for planting. On June 9th, an official ribbon cutting ceremony took place to celebrate the newly installed beds. Many residents and their families attended. Since then, residents have been able to gather produce, bringing a variety of fresh harvest to the table. This project demonstrates the impact the Healthy Lifestyles-Marshfield Area Coalition has on our community and our local residents.

Walk This Way!

Walking as a part of your daily routine provides the physical activity needed to  obtain health benefits. Turn your normal walk into a brisk stride to get the most effective use of your time with these tips from the National Institutes of Health :
  • Chin up, looking forward, not at the ground (or phone!)
  • Shoulders slightly back and relaxed
  • Slightly tighten your stomach muscles and keep your back straight (not arching forward or backward)
  • Swing your arms naturally with a slight bend in your elbows
  • Let your heel touch the ground first, rolling your weight forward
  • Walk with toes pointed forward
Utilize the Marshfield Area Walking Paths, marked by painted apples. Find maps of paths at  http://marshfieldhealthylifestyles.org/activeliving/ .
