President's Message
My fellow members,

Well that was an unexpected election result.

No matter your view of the outcome of our federal election, a truth remains: the most trusted government is local government. Government our residents can use every day. Government led by people who can be met at the coffee shop or grocery store. Government that is often called to take on society's tough issues. Our mission as local elected leaders remains critical to our residents. So keep working hard at it. What you do matters.

Local government is like a family, and attending Sam and Sharon Olivito's retirement event at the Biltmore was a family reunion experience. Mark Waronek, Councilman from Lomita, and Maria Montes, former CCCA staffer, did an amazing job organizing and executing the event. It was a wonderful evening celebrating over 3 decades of their service.

The next big "family reunion" will be the All Cities Holiday Reception. This well-attended event usually draws several hundred between our friends at the LA Division of the League, BizFed and Contract Cities.

You should be making plans now to attend the 50th Anniversary State Legislative Orientation Tour. We are again joined this year by the Independent Cities Association with the recognition that our increased numbers will give us a bigger voice at the Capitol. It is critical that you join us in Sacramento to represent your city and residents. Contact our staff to reserve your space today.

The holidays are nearly here, and the fellowship of friends - both personal and professional - is important to think about as we work together to forge a better society and make a positive impact on the people we have been entrusted to serve. Be safe this holiday season and rest up to make 2017 a great year for local government.

Sincerely,

Lou La Monte

A Tribute to the Career of Sam Olivito
On November 5, 2016, local government leaders gathered to pay tribute to the career of a great man. Sam Olivito and his wife, Sharon, managed the California Contract Cities Association for decades through Olivito and Associates. They guarded the interest of contract cities and executed years of quality programs for the members of this organization. Sam and Sharon retired earlier this year and members of this organization, past and present, celebrated. Special thanks to Mark Waronek and Maria Montes for organizing the event. They did an amazing job and pulled it off in a stunning venue at the Biltmore Hotel. Enjoy retirement, Sam and Sharon!
