FIRM GETS A FABULOUS FACELIFT

Taking a Day to Spruce Up the Office

It was time. And when put to a vote, the staff response was unanimous -- our digs needed a little TLC. As many of our employees find painting to be fun and relaxing, they suggested having a painting party as a team-building event.

Donning painters caps and shabby chic clothing, the staff took a Friday to paint the office. Stopping only for a pizza break and caffeinated drink refuel, they motored through the day -- painting, climbing, cleaning, and miles upon miles of taping -- punctuated by the occasional paint and water spill. Add a few pieces of furniture, rugs and wall art, and voila!

The result was quite impressive. Please stop by our office and check out all the changes!

Monty provided the "supervision" for the day. He even let us leave early.

IT'S DEFINITELY DOABLE...

Changing Your Irrevocable Medicaid/VA Pension Benefit Planning Documents

As a Certified Medicaid Plannerâ„¢ and V.A. Certified Attorney, I am often privileged to help our clients and their families set up secure plans to shelter their assets from often crippling long- term-care costs. By setting up a series of Irrevocable Trusts and putting some or all of their assets into the Trust, our clients can potentially qualify immediately for the veteran's pension benefit -- and then in five years meet Medicaid's "lookback period" and not have to spend down their Trust assets.

Unfortunately, the trade-off when setting up these Trusts is that our clients are locking in their planning wishes and giving up control of the assets in the Trust. This can become problematic if the clients want changes down the road. After all, the Trusts were irrevocable when they were set up, so there is no way for the clients to simply make the changes and sign the updated documents because they are not the Trustees, they are not the beneficiaries, and they do not own the assets in the Trusts.

So how do we make changes to an irrevocable plan? It's a little complicated, but it is doable.

Firm Serves as Drop-Off for Donations

The 2nd Annual Stockings of Joy program is well underway. Our office is serving as a drop-off point for donated items to benefit local community elders in need of a little extra joy during the holidays.

We are collecting word search books, cards, pens, markers and small games. They will be included in 600 hand-decorated stockings stuffed with comfort items to be given out to seniors during the holiday season.

If you would like to donate any of these items, please stop by and drop them off by December 2nd.

Thank you!
