The Woodlawn News

November is a month to reflect on our many blessings and give thanks.

There is so much to be thankful for here at Woodlawn. We had a great regular season, with house tour visitations up over last year. Thank you to our tourism partners who sent people our way.

Our thanks go to our members and visitors who spent time with us touring the house, using the grounds and attending events and programs.   Thank you to the local school systems for their support of the Woodlawn School Program.  To date, 1,000 students have enjoyed educational programs at Woodlawn and in their classrooms. Students attended free of charge thanks to the proceeds from the Ellsworth Antiques Show, which also had increased attendance this past August.

Our heartfelt thanks go to those who support us with their annual memberships and to everyone that includes Woodlawn in their charitable giving.  It is through the support of so many that we are able to do so much.

We wish you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving and a safe holiday filled with laughter and family traditions.

We hope you enjoy this issue of The Woodlawn News and invite you to share it with family and friends. It is published for the community and sign-up can be accessed by clicking below.
Woodlawn's 2017 Annual Appeal

November is the month that we ask our membership and others to consider a gift for our annual appeal.

This year our annual appeal goal is $50,000.  Every donation to our annual appeal will help to maintain Woodlawn for recreational use, create innovative programming for the community, and help students learn about the region's heritage. In 2016, close to 1,300 students will experience Woodlawn's educational programming on our campus and in their classrooms.

With your support we can reach our annual appeal goal and ensure Woodlawn is enjoyed to an even greater extent in 2017.  For your convenience, we have established
on-line payments through our website .

If you prefer to send a check, please make it payable to Woodlawn and send it to PO Box 1478, Ellsworth ME, 04605

Woodlawn Welcomes New Business Coordinator

We are delighted to welcome Joanna Weaver as our new Business Coordinator at Woodlawn.

Joanna is a 2016 graduate of College of the Atlantic with a degree in Documentary Film Making and joined our staff as the Guest Attendant this past June.  A native of Gouldsboro Maine, she was attracted to the position at Woodlawn because of her interest in the Black House and its beautiful grounds. In addition to working with visitors this summer, she has been instrumental in creating Woodlawn videos and developing the Woodlawn YouTube station.  She looks forward to her new role and responsibilities.

Christmas at Woodlawn
A Celebration of Trees

The community is in for a real treat as the 2016 decorating theme, A Celebration of Trees will include trees decorated by twenty-seven area businesses and organizations.

Building on last year's success, we once again invited the business community to help decorate the Black House. Last year's visitors loved the creative displays with trees of all shapes, sizes and colors. Decorations ran the gamut from homemade and traditional to thoroughly modern and unusual.  This year is shaping up to be even more spectacular. The Black House will be open for tours, December 1st through the 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.  To read about all the activities planned, click here.

To see the list of participating decorators, visit the Christmas at Woodlawn page at
