How the next generation of performance monitoring tools can help tanker companies do more
- Linking fuel consumption data with tools to optimise commercial aspects of shipping
- Importance of data validation
- Making small amounts of measured data work harder
- Providing operators and charterers with insight into the performance of the vessel against the charter party - and how the vessel operated during the voyage

Speaker biographies
Rajat Saxena, manager, energy efficiency, Maersk Tankers
Rajat has been leading the Maersk Tankers energy Efficiency team for 3 years. Before becoming the Energy Efficiency Manager for Maersk Tankers, he was a part of the same team working as a Fuel Optimization Engineer. Major part of his job involved evaluation of performance and assisting vessels identify areas of improvement and helping them improve performance. He was sailing as a senior engineer on board MT owned LPG carriers, container vessels, and Ro-Ro vessels before moving ashore.
Henrik Marloth, Project Manager, Team Tankers International
I have been working within the maritime sector since end education as naval architect in various positions. I have as well, been abroad for 6 years in Guangzhou, P.R. China.
At the moment I holding a position as Project manager where I am responsible for setting up technical projects, energy performance system, performance awareness training for crew within Team Tankers.
The above, is done in close cooperation with the fleet managers within the Team Tankers organization and the 3rd party ship managers which is running the vessels technically.
Gregoire Napoli, Maersk Tankers
Gregoire has been leading Ballast Water Management Systems Program for the past 2 years. He is currently ensuring Maersk Tankers as a company is ready by the time Ballast Water Convention enters into force. He has been employed in the Maersk Group for more than 12 years and spent 8 years at sea in senior officer ranks, before moving ashore into a Technical superintendent role.
Mathias Nyman Rasmussen, senior performance manager, COACH Solutions (formerly Clipper Fleet Performance)
COACH is a vessel performance monitoring system that provides the ship operator with voyage observation and analysis on hull, propeller and engine efficiencies. In order to optimize energy consumption, COACH keeps the operator updated during and upon completion of the voyage.
The reporting and communication is kept simple with unified noon reporting and energy deviation alerts from the vessels. Ultimately, COACH can contribute to optimizing the fleet portfolio by identifying fuel-efficient designs and over-consuming vessels.
In short COACH is:
- A software based tool that requires no hardware installations, and has been successfully installed on more than 325 vessels worldwide
- A fleet performance tool that includes hourly AIS based tracking and takes care of all reporting conducted from vessel to office
- A great integrated solution for fuel consumption savings and performance optimization, as well as for minimizing the ship's environmental footprint
Jan Wilhelmsson, VP commercial shipping, Eniram
A former seagoing officer and senior executive with 20 years industry experience, Jan is now driving the development of new products for commercial operators at ENIRAM. Although he has sailed a variety of vessels and holds a Master ticket, Jan spent most of his career commercially operating large trade lanes, and has particular interest in advanced commercial optimization.
