Dear Parents and Friends,

This week included two very special days - Election Day and Veteran's Day. Naturally, we spent time in each class learning about and observing these important days for all of us as proud citizens of the United States. After Election Day, we got together as an entire school community to explore the important lessons to be learned from this year's troubling election cycle. While this election was overwhelmingly negative and full of personal attacks, we learned about healthy disagreements and how to respectfully discuss differences. We also explored the qualities that we think are characteristc of good leaders, and took lessons from some of our leaders from the Torah, such as Moshe, David, Devora, and Queen Esther.  Our students participated in a school-wide Election Day integration about the lessons learned from this election season. Of course, as always at YJS, we did this through role playing games and several other activities - each appropriate for the different grade levels.

In honor of Veteran's Day today, some of our students visited the Jewish War Veterans room of the JCC, and joined a memorial service that was held in the front of the building, under the American Flag. Many also met with several veterans - including our teacher, Mr. Lang - and heard about their experiences and the sacrifices they have made. The students later wrote Thank You cards to all the veterans for their service to our country.

Parent Teacher Conferences for the main campus will be held on Tuesday, November 22. There will be early dismissal at 2:00pm that day, with aftercare available until 4:30pm. Conferences will run from 2:20-9:40pm. If you have not done so already, please call the front office to schedule your appointments. I strongly encourage all of you to attend.

Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Elie Tuchman, Ed.D.
